Obituary of John W. Suldon

John Suldon was the Vice Chair of the BC Security Incorporated registered as the East State Street Village Brothers Club Incorporated. It was the first non-profit which helped the Camden Community in many ways which was endorsed by Governor Florio. He personally led the first "Clean Up" in Cramer Hill as a total Community, in all parts of Cramer Hill. Additionally, he was on the first organizing group to develop the Police Athletics League (PAL) organization of East State Street Village. He served as a Ward Volunteer under the Democratic Committee for Cramer Hill to North Camden extending to 42nd Street. He was directly responsible for organizing the first total Community Neighborhood Town Watch organization in 1973 in Camden and served as the second in command as its Vice President. While driving around the city, he began to notice that Camden was being used as a personal landfill for outside communities. The stretch of land on Harrison Avenue between State Street and 26th Street (Where the CROC Center currently stand) was the most frequently used dumping site in Cramer Hill. This ignited a desire to clean up dump sites around the city and stop illegal dumping once and for all. This brings us to his most notable achievement where he brought over 450 out of town dumpers to justice. Because of his unwavering diligence, Camden City illegal dumping laws changed. Due to this change, if found guilty, the penalty for dumping in Camden City increased from $250 to $500. This was unprecedented during the 1980's which brought him recognition by both the Camden City Council and the Police department, As well as the Mayor and the State Senator for his outstanding bravery. In addition, he received the Spirit of Philadelphia Award which was aired on and presented by the Philadelphia WCAU TV Channel 10 News for his caring commitment towards the betterment of his community. He was not just a community organizer, but also a devoted husband and loving father. He will truly be missed. He leaves to cherish his memories his predeceased wife, Judith Lyles-Suldon, Children Kimberly Lyles-Wright, James Suldon, Tabetha Suldon-Collier and Erica Suldon. He has 11 grandchildren, 3 brothers Charlie Suldon (deceased), Frank Suldon Jr. (deceased), Hugh "Lester" Suldon (deceased) and 5 sisters Madis Jenkins-Powell (deceased), Magalean Suldon (deceased), Annie Lee Ransome (deceased), Cleotha "Cleo" Rodgers (deceased), Annie Doris Bell and a host of Nieces, nephews, and dearest friends.
