Obituary of James A. Williams, Sr.

OBITUARY

JAMES A. WILLIAMS, SR.,formerly of Bridgeton, NJ, was born June 25, 1940, the 6th of eleven children born to Pastor Stitt and Catherine Williams.  During his teenage years he joined the Union Baptist Temple and was baptized under the pastorate of Pastor R .W. Davis.  He served as a choir member and was active in the Bible Training Union.  He graduated from Bridgeton High School, where he excelled as an athlete in track, football, and wrestling.  He also played on a championship basketball team.  After attending Wilberforce University in Ohio, he later moved to Long Island New York where he was employed as an Investigator for the State of New York.  He was also an accomplished professional singer, composer of many songs, and the author of several published books.  Following in his father’s footsteps, he acquired an independent seafood business that he and his wife owned and operated for a period of time.

In all that has been accomplished in life, as long as Jimmy was able to engage you in conversation, he never stopped sharing his testimony about the love of God.  Whether you knew the Lord or not, Jimmy would do his best to make sure it was clearly understood that: “If we have accepted the Lord, we can fully believe that we can trust Him because God’s Word assures us that He will never leave us or forsake us.” 

Jimmy was predeceased by his loving wife Lois Terrell-Williams, and stepdaughters: Shirley Morris, and Beverly Morris, his parents, his brothers: Albert and Harold, and his sister Mae Williams-Wilson.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his son: James Williams, Jr., stepdaughters: Brenda Hale, and Sandra Lewis, grandchildren: Tracey Lewis, Christopher Hale, Amani Williams, and Scynniah Hale; his sisters, Selene Williams-Jones, Marjorie Williams-Scott, Gladys Williams-Pierce, Naomi Williams-Luck, and Ruth Williams-Butler; and his brothers: David Williams and Arthur Williams; a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins, the many Voice Class students he formerly instructed, and many friends.
