Obituary
Charlsie Ann (Nee Aycock) Hampton of Mount Holly, NJ was born September 5,
1944 in Rome, Georgia to the late Charles William and Annie Ware Aycock. She
married the love of her life, William McKinley Hampton, Jr. on August 7, 1964. They
shared a marriage of unconditional love and friendship spanning 54+ years. To this
union, they were blessed with two children, William McKinley, III and Rhonda Alicia.
Charlsie accepted Christ at an early age, and was baptized at Greater Mt. Calvary
Baptist Church in Rome, GA. During her teenage years, she taught Sunday School,
served as Vacation Bible School pianist, and a Junior Usher.
Charlsie received her early education at Mary T. Banks Elementary School and
completed her middle and high school years on the campus of Main High School. She
was voted "Miss Main High" Homecoming Queen during her senior year and
graduated in 1962 as class Valedictorian. She also attended Fisk University in
Nashville, TN and majored in Biology.
Charlsie was a Girl Scout Troop leader in Rome, GA and also assisted with her son's
Cub Scout pack. While her husband William was stationed in Southeast Asia, she
served as a U.S. Census Taker back in Rome, GA. She was known to whip up many
baked treats for her childrens' classes and sew and construct costumes for school
plays. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, learning new things, crocheting afghans,
snowflakes, angels, and other Christmas tree ornaments, quiet time, and a newfound
enjoyment of cruising the Caribbean.
Charlsie worked as a Federal Civil Service employee at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base,
Upper Peninsula, MI and retired while employed at McGuire Air Force Base,
Wrightstown, NJ.
Charlsie is pre-deceased by her parents and sister-in-law, Maria Hampton. She leaves
to cherish her memory: her devoted husband, William Jr.; son, William III (Darnell);
daughter, Rhonda; sister, Cheney Aycock of Rome, GA; two granddaughters she
dearly loved and was proud of: Gabrielle and Arianna; "adopted" daughter, Linda
Goodwyn of Virginia Beach, VA; special college friend, "Milli" Rogers; and a host
of relatives, Main High Class of '62, and friends.
