Nothing can really prepare us for the death of a loved one. Do take courage, death can be conquered because our loving Creator has made this promise at Isaiah 25:8, which states: "He will swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from their faces." God's reassuring words at Revelation 21:3-4 are also consoling. As wonderful as it is that mourning, outcry and pain will be no more, God's promise even includes doing away with death, mankind's ultimate enemy (1 Corinthians 15:26). How grateful that all these promises will be possible because of Jesus' death (John 3:16). It is my prayer that as you heal, and you have a quiet moment to meditate, you will draw some comfort from these words of comfort as God speaks through the Bible.
