James Cook

Obituary of James E Cook

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On Wednesday, November 21, 2018, the Lord called his faithful servant, James Eugene Cook home to be with him.

James was born on June 18, 1954 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Purley and Vera Cook. James, known to most as “Jimmy” was one of four children. His siblings Sheridan, Kenneth, and Eric grew up with Jimmy in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. He attended school in Philadelphia and graduated from Germantown High.  He later matriculated at Pierce Junior College.

Jim received his spiritual calling and soon dedicated his life to the Lord at a very young age. He attended West Oak Lane Church of God in Philadelphia. He was heavily involved in ministry and soon became the Youth Minister. He was a member of the church choir and loved to play the organ. He dedicated many years to serving at WOLCOG before moving to Willingboro, NJ and becoming an ordained Pastor. Jimmy shepherded the Willingboro Church of God for 15 years.  He was a devoted Pastor who loved his members whole-heartedly.

Jimmy was introduced to his wife Dale Allen by a mutual friend. The two united in marriage on March 19, 1983. Out of their union came four beautiful children, Adam, Danielle, Ericka, and Michael.  He was a family man who loved taking his family on summer vacations. He loved supporting his kid’s  many athletic endeavors while making sure they excelled academically.

Jimmy was a Mail Flow Controller for the United States Postal Service Bulk Mail Center in Philadelphia for 27 years until an untimely illness forced him into early retirement.  During his time with the Postal Service he found a love for and soon joined the Bulk Mail Bowling League. You could see him every Monday (sometimes with his four children tagging behind him) bowling with his beloved team, Strike Force at the Philly Boulevard Lanes. He received many awards and accolades individually and with his team. His proudest moment was when he bowled a near perfect game missing only one pin throughout the entire game.

Jimmy leaves his cherished memories to his devoted wife Dale of 36 years; four adult children, Adam, Danielle, Ericka, and Michael; Sister, Sheridan (Kermit) Gipson; Two brothers, Kenneth (Linda), Eric Sr. (Andrea); Mother-In-Law, Aunt, Godson,  Brother-in-laws,  Sister-in-laws, cousins, nephews, nieces, great nieces and nephews, great-great nephews, and a host of special friends of the family. He will always be remembered for his kind-hearted, warm and God-fearing spirit.
