Obituary of James Alexander Lacey
James Alexander Lacey was born in Philadelphia to the late Earl and Sarah Lacey. James was one of eight siblings: Earl Jr., Francena, Charles, William and Gerald who preceded him in death, Bettie Ann and Mimi.
James who was affectionately known as “Jimmy” was educated in the Philadelphia public school system. He served in the United States Air Force, achieved the ranking of Master Sergeant, and retired after 20 years of service with an honorable discharge. Upon his discharge, James worked for HUD and retired after 20 years. He later worked as a limousine driver where one of his favorite clients was Lewis Katz, owner of the NJ Nets.
James was an avid listener of Jazz, with Sarah Vaughn and Miles Davis among his favorites. He also liked to attend jazz concerts at Wiggins Park in Camden, was an amateur photographer and a self-proclaimed grill master.
He also loved to spend time with his family and friends to share his experiences from international travels with the military and his wife.
James leaves to cherish his fond memories his devoted and loving wife of 43 years Ramona (Rae) Lacey; his children: Cheryl, Shambra, LaCey, Janice, James and Rodney (Anisha); his 25 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters Bettie Anne and Mimi, one sister in law, Yvonne, one brother in law, Wayne, five nieces, seven nephews, five great nephews, three great nieces and a host of family and friends.
The family wishes to extend our sincere gratitude for all the well wishes and condolences during our time of bereavement. We want to especially acknowledge his home health aides associated with Optimum Care Services and Latifah and Ronda who have become additions to our family.
