I was so sorry to read about Leon's death. I worked with him at SSA as an EEO counselor and admired him greatly. He had a good sense of humor and was always willing to share his time and expertise. He was kind and gentle and thoughtful. This world needs more people like Leon. May you find comfort in knowing that he made a difference. Winnie Fessen

I was saddened to read Leon's obituary in the paper today. I worked with Leon in he SSA Regional Office for about 10 years. He was, simply put, a wonderful man. His quiet demeanor and size hid an equally large sense of humor, intelligence and heart. I can still see him dropping his jaw and chuckling at one of my attempts at comedy. We were in tons of meetings together. Leon had a difficult job. He was often caught in the cross hairs of management. But he NEVER set aside the law to please a higher-up. He was a great Santa Clause at the Annual RO Christmas Party for children he organized every year. His only fault was that he rooted for Villanova over St. Joe's! Just because his nephew, Kerry, played for Villanova was no excuse! ha! I know he worked hard to keep his diabetes under control. But even as the disease slowly began to win out, Im sure Leon never gave in or gave up. Leon was a wonderful person, whose life was one for all of us to try to model. He was my friend. My sincere condolences to Leon’s family. I am a long time co worker who began my SSA career around the same time as he did. He was truly a gentleman and was dedicated to whatever task he was involved in. He helped so many people when he was actively involved with AFGE Local 2006.
