Obituary of John W Wynn
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Willie Wynn was born on November 18, 1932 to the late John Henry and Alise Wynn in Dinwiddie Virginia. On July 17, 2020, John Willie Wynn received his crown of glory surrounded by the love and devotion of his best friend and wife Roxanna Wynn.
John is survived by his wife Roxanna, his brothers and sisters: Mary Elisabeth Mason, Ernest Wynn, Sherman Wynn, Raymond Wynn and Delores Scott. John was blessed with a large loving family of cousins, nieces, nephews, brother and sister in laws and extended family. John Wynn with his straightforward character and strong insight will be missed by all.
One day walking to work, John saw a beautiful young woman standing by the fence of her family’s house. She said hello and it was love at first sight. They were married on December 11, 1952 and spent the next 68 years traveling the world and experiencing a full and wonderful life. John and Roxy resided in Somerdale NJ in their marital home surrounded by neighbors who became family. John and Roxanne traveled the world on adventure after adventure. Their favorite times were spent getting in the car with no destination in mind and spend the day exploring a new road, a new shopping center, or a new restaurant. They also loved to vacation in any Sandal’s resort that was just built or recently renovated. They wanted to be the first to issue their expert review of the accommodations.
After getting married, John entered the US Army in February 1953, transferred to the US Navy in 1955 and retired in 1974. He served his country with dignity and honor; he was a true military man and loved being a part of the Armed Forces. During his time in the service, John would make some extra money by cutting the hair of his crewmates to make sure everyone looked their best for shore leave. With the Navy John was able to travel the world and would often regal his friends and family with stories of his time on all the continents.
After leaving the service, John embarked upon a second career as head of security with Cigna from 1975 retiring in 1992.
In 1986, John and Roxy joined Bethany Baptist Church on Earl Avenue and in 1991 met the then Pastor David Evans who would be their spiritual leader for the next 34 years. John served as a Trustee for the church and always felt blessed to have such a warm and loving church family.
John Willie Wynn leaves us in the physical realm, to join his heavenly Father, but his memory will be with us always. We will be forever grateful for his presence in our lives.
