Obituary
James Chester Davis affectionately known as Dave, Mr. D, and Pop Pop was born June 24, 1936 in Eastville, VA to the late Samuel William Davis Sr. and Annie Fitchett Davis. He was the youngest of 10 children.
Dave was educated in the North Hampton County, VA School District, graduating high school in 1954. He faithfully served his country for 35 years. In 1955 he joined the United States Air Force. He was an Airman Second Class when he was discharged in 1961. In 1962 he began working for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1997.
While employed at the U.S. Postal Service, he met and married Eunice S.Nelson in 1972. That same year he moved Eunice and her three daughters to Wenonah, New Jersey.
He also ran his own business, Dave’s Tax Service from the 1970’s until the time of his death. He employed many family members and his assistant Dawn Wisenauer.
Dave was a member of Spoken Word Evangelistic Church in Woodbury, NJ where he drove the church van when he was in better health and faithfully continued the “Upper Room Devotional” ministry after the passing of his wife. He previously attended Mount Zion-Wesley United Methodist Church in Wenonah, NJ where he served with the Men’s Ministry and the Men’s Monthly Breakfast Fellowship.
He was preceded in death by his wife Eunice, his siblings Samuel Davis, Jr., John Davis, Robert Davis, Romaine Anderson, Mary Brickhouse, Anna Bracy, Olive Joyner, Maurice Buie, and Viola Davis; nephew George Alvin Buie.
Dave is survived by his daughters Sheila Marsh (Garrett), Yvette Brooks (Garry), Tinice Davis (Ricky); grandchildren Arlo Nelson, Darnell Tillett II, Cierra Davis, Briana Marsh, and Christa Marsh; nephew Aubrey Buie; nieces Beatrice Davis, Antoinette Buie, Jacqueline Buie; In-laws Arlene Tinsley, Luther Tinsley (Sue), Solomon Tinsley, Everett Tinsley (Denise) and a host of family and friends.
