Obituary
Joseph John Giles Jr., affectionately known as Jody, was born on July 30, 1951 to the late Joseph John Giles Sr. and Virginia Giles Jones in Camden, NJ. He was educated in the New York City Public School System and Camden City School District.
Jody graduated from Camden High School in 1970, and enlisted in the United States Air Force after graduation. He completed basic training at the Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He served in the military as a SGT. Security Specialist for 4 years before being honorably discharged. After service, Jody returned to Camden, NJ and began working at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, where he worked in Environmental Services for 40 years. Although he spent most of those years at the School of Nursing, he was known throughout the hospital for his dedication and strong work ethic.
In 1971, Jody married Debra D. West and from this union came their two children; son Joseph III and daughter, LaKeisha. Jody and Debra later divorced, and in 1991 Jody reconnected with a childhood friend, Lois Williams. Jody and Lois married on November 25, 1995 and would remain together until his death.
Jody was a fun loving and outgoing person, who was known for his love of music, movies, and seafood. He was a self-taught drummer and played with a band during his station in Italy. He was always the life of the party and loved cooking seafood, laughing, and joking with family and friends.
Jody was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph J. Giles Sr. and Virginia Giles Jones, and brother, Michael Giles.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Lois Giles; mother in law Julia B. Collins; children; Joseph J. Giles III (Aisha) and LaKeisha T. Fluellen (Terrence Sr.); step-daughter Katrina Matthews (Keith); grandchildren, Tanaysia, Jaleah, Terrence Jr., Jason, and Terrell; sisters, Cynthia McNeal (Bethlehem, PA) and Tanya Giles; brother, Robert Giles (Atlanta, GA); sister in law Regina Green (Eddie); brothers in law, Burkett Williams (Maria) (Florence, SC), Carl Williams (Lola), Reginald Williams (Sherry) (Hinesville, GA), Bruce Williams, and Keith Williams; three life-long friends Coleman Gene West, James Caison, Jerome Boyd, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.
