Obituary of Ernest Barton, Sr.

Ernest Barton, Sr. was born in the loving arms of Mary and Robert Lee Barton on Aug. 23, 1949, in Orangeburg, South Carolina. The family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina , where was educated in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System., receiving his High School diploma from J.H.Gunn High School.
Ernest met the love of his life Cynthia Brice, they moved to Philadelphia/New Jersey where they married in 1972 and raised three children. Kevin(deceased) Makenda and Ernest,Jr..They both worked at the Mcguire Air Force Base, where Ernest worked as a Project supervisor for a civilian Company.
Ernest always loved to drive , so he went to school and became a Tractor Trailer Driver and drove for Liedtka Trucking Company and retired from there after 30 years of service, he also drove a truck for Reed Technology in Horsham PA and retired from there in 2008.
Affectionately known all over as "Deac" he was an avid golfer, he would say great golfer and spent most of his days perfecting his game on the golf course.
Ernest accepted Christ as his Lord and saviour in 1990 at the House Of Prayer under Elder Giradie Mercer, where he was ordained a Deacon. He then became a member and a Deacon of True Gospel Tabernacle, under Bishop Ernest McNear, for over twenty years . He was a van driver, pastor driver, maintenance man and more. He met his next Pastor who was the Bishop of this Penn State Jurisdiction , Bishop "Lawd Hav Mercy" Harold Benjamin and served him until he went on to be with Lord, and he continued to serve there until the Lord called him home under Pastor Dr. Alyce F, Benjamin whom he loved as a mother., as a newly ordained Elder in 2019, anointed and appointed by Bishop Tyrone McCombs. He also served as an Elder with the Moses Memorial District under the tutelage of Superintendent Timothy L Harris, whom he loved and respected as a great friend.
Elder Barton loved people and he loved good food. He poured a lot of wisdom into the lives of his children and grandchildren, neices, nephews and more. There was not a person that he met that they did not soon become friends.He touched a lot of lives and was the BEST Son, brother, Husband, Father, PopPop,Unc in the world.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, Brother Tom, Sister Mildred, Son Kevin.He leaves to mourn his passing, yet celebrate his life, his wife, Cynthia,daughter Makenda, Son, Ernest Jr. Sister Vertell Barton, his grandchildren, Brittany, Nicholas, and Samaad. Nieces, Wanda, Valerie and Renee, Altovise and Shanetta, Nephew Eric, Sister in love Beverly Brice, Daughter in loves Diana and Jackie
and his brother and sister in Christ Henry and Lucille Hopkins and a hosts of cousins and more,
I am honored to say that my husband has left a legacy of love for family and friends. love for God and devotion to others as he tried to live as God commanded. Sleep well my dear Husband and take your rest. I will miss you dearly,, but God loves you best.
