Psalm 121:1 James Harris, Sr. was born December 16, 1927 in Middletown, New Jersey to the late Samuel and Emmaline Harris. He was educated in the elementary and junior high school in the Middletown, New Jersey school system. Valuing the principles of hard work, he found gainful employment within the Equine Horse Association where he developed a passion for training horses and helped with their breeding for racing. He acquired a job working through a family-owned equine business to become a horse trainer. James became a horse jockey and raced horses in the various racetracks located from New York, New Jersey, Monmouth Park, Belmont Park, Churchill Downs, Pimlico Park, Garden State Park, and Delaware to Florida locations. James joined the National Guard Service for servicing his country On June 6, 1949, James was united in marriage to the late Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Harris in Baltimore, Maryland. They moved to Redbank, New Jersey for several years and began to raise their family. Following his hard work ethic, his love for God and family, James and Mary settled in Camden, New Jersey. James and Mary joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Camden, New Jersey, where they raised their ten children. James began his transition to working as a Camden County Activist for OEO Community organization, to a Manager for Two Guys Department Store, to working as a Sales Insurance Manager for Prudential Insurance, a Camden County Truant Officer, and then as a guard for RCA where he later retired. James and Mary Harris then moved to Williamstown, New Jersey where he came out of retirement to continue his dedication and hard work at the Monroe Township Crossing Guard School System. He received an award for Most Outstanding Crossing Guard in Monroe Township and later retired. James loved God, his wife, family, and friends. He modeled servanthood in his family, in his neighborhood, and in the school system where he worked. James transitioned from this Life to "Everlasting Life" on January 26, 2021. James leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Mary E. Harris (Deceased), and ten loving children: Lenore Hamilton (Kenny); Gloria Adams; Patricia Ware (George); James Harris, Jr. (Brigitt); Ronald Harris (Kimberly); Jacqueline Martin (Brian); Michael Harris (Heidi); Richard Harris (Wanda); Lisa Harris (Deceased); Sharon Baugh (Robert); and his loving 27 grandchildren: Mark, Kenneth Jr. (Shayla), Kevin (Norvell); Selena, Shante (Aaron); Kimberly (Aaron); Tamara (Frederick); Taleka; James III (Amy); Veronica, Virginia, Antjuan, Victoria, Myles; Brian Jr.(Chayla), Tiffani; Brittany, Kelsee, Eric, Takiesha, Chanel, Tess, Alexander; Nijea, Domonique; Keillan (Mailelrene), Danielle; many Great grandchildren. James is preceded in death by his Father Samuel Harris & Mother Emmaline Harris; his siblings; brothers, Baryn Harris, George Harris, Theodore Harris; and sisters, Violet Bland, Sarah Marshall, Beatrice Lewis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
