The family circle has been broken; a link gone from our chain.
We will always love you.
Elias Rudolph Lofland affectionately known as “Rudy” the eldest son of the late Harry and Anna Roberta Lofland. Rudy was born in Chestertown, MD on April 28, 1940. The family relocated to Camden, NJ in the mid-40s. Rudy was educated in the Camden School System. He attended Whittier Elementary and Borough Junior High. He had to put his education on hold to care for his family when his father became disabled.
Rudy was a hardworking man. As a young man he worked with Marty Goldberg, a contractor, as an apprentice. He learned many skills such as carpentry, electrical work and plumbing. Later, he began a career at Haddon Bindery in North Camden as a cutter; and, he remained employed there for 16 years until the business closed. Afterwards, Rudy began a new career at PRC Corporation in Gloucester City, NJ which is currently known as Courtold’s Aerospace and retired as a supervisor in May 2002 after 25 years of service. During his lifetime he also worked for years at a couple of side jobs; the longest being Harry’s Liquor Store in Camden, NJ where he worked for many years in various capacities.
Rudy was cut from the old cloth where family was first and loyal friendships were key. Rudy was previously married to Veronica Lofland and from this union three children were born. Years later Rudy met and married Kathy. They began a life together that spanned forty-three years. They raised their seven children together. David (deceased), Roslyn, Darryl, Kim, Raymond, Stephen and Scott. He was also affectionately known as “Daddy Rudy” to Kinyta Smalls and Erica Grice.
Rudy was raised in a Christian home and as a youth he was baptized at and attended with his mother the Mount Hope A.M.E. Church in N. Camden. He later joined Kaighn Avenue Baptist Church in Camden; and, once united with Kathie he found a spiritual home at the St. John Baptist Church in Camden where he was a member until his passing.
Rudy was “a people person” and “a man’s man”. It would be impossible to mention all of the people that he held dear, mentored and whose lives he touched. Just know he loved you all. He loved sports, fishing and entertaining family & friends and traveling. We all know that he was a passionate Eagle’s fan; attending home games and following the team on the road. He was also fortunate to travel to exotic places far and near with his wife, family and friends over the years.
He leaves to honor and cherish his memory his wife Kathie Ann Lofland (nee Gantt); his sons David (deceased) Darryl Lofland (Eva); Raymond, Stephen and Scott Lindsey; daughters Roslyn Lofland and Kim Lindsey; grandchildren Jarrid (Crystal), Anthony, Eric, Erika, Julian, Darryl, Brandon, Alexus, Kayla and Tarajee; greatgrandchildren Ciani and Brandon, Jr.. A brother Walter Lofland, Sr.; a brother-in-law Leonard Gantt, sisters-in-law Edna Still, Sally Smith and Jerri Lofland; given sons Brian Gantt, Ronald and Kevin Money; and, a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his “homies” Charles Payton, Leroy and Bernadette Freeman, Judy Grice, Calvin Dobson, Ralph Roberts, William “Butch” Sellers, James “JP” Pruitt, Whip Wilson, Gary Sunkett, James “Jimmy” Lee, Clyde and Migdalia McCray, Joyce Quarles, Corrine and Jerry Powers, Jacqueline Hammond, Estelle Brown, Marcia Snype, Mable Foreman and Min. Joann Cade. He also leaves to cherish his memory The American Legion Post Family, Integrity Chapter Family, and Zamora Temple and Court Family.
