Obituary of Vincent U. Thomas
Please share a memory of Vincent to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
HE THAT DWELLETH IN THE SECRET PLACE OF THE MOST HIGH SHALL ABIDE UNDER THE SHADOW OF THE ALMIGHTY. I WILL SAY OF THE LORD, HE IS MY REFUGE AND MY FORTRESS: MY GOD; IN HIM I WILL TRUST. PSALM 91: 1-2
Vincent Uriah Thomas was born on November 17, 1932 in Antigua, U.S. Virgin Islands to Alfred and Gwendolyn Thomas. Vincent made a peaceful transition from home, to his Heavenly home on February 22, 2021.
Vincent received his education in the Free Town, Antigua School System, and was employed by Chef-Bluebeard Castle Resort, in St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. Vincent spent twenty-five years as a Physical Therapy Assistant at Cooper University Hospital, Camden, NJ, and retired in 2004.
Vincent married his loving wife, Courtney, on June 7, 2002. And after retirement, was able to devote himself to his favorite hobbies, cooking and gardening. Vince enjoyed sitting on the front porch and talking with the neighbors as they passed by. He also enjoyed watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and Family Feud; “You learn a lot” he would say.
Vince enjoyed Tommy’s barbeque hot dogs and hamburgers; he loved vacationing in Orlando, Florida; an occasional trip to Atlantic City, NJ, and family gatherings in Hampton, Virginia and Lindenwold, NJ.
He also enjoyed attending Sunday Worship services at Harris Temple A.M.E. Zion Church where he served faithfully under the pastorship of Rev. R.C. Venable for 18 years. He was appointed to the Steward Board, Emeritus, and served as co-chair of Men’s Day in 1994, 1997 and 2020. He always had a big smile for Bro. Izzy Mateo, calling him ‘chap’, who was a willing and faithful helper getting Vincent in and out of the car.
Vincent read his bible faithfully every night, and would encourage his wife to do so whenever she became upset about issues.
Vincent was preceded in death by his brothers Richard, Clem, Jasper and Atelbert.
Vincent leaves to cherish his memories his faithful wife Courtney, brother Elwyn (Lynnette), sister Naomi (Ivan); brother in laws Arthur, Allen, David, Tommy (Glenny), Fred, Jeffrey, Harold (Kathy), and Curtis. Sister in laws Brenda, Connie, and Jennifer. Step daughters Tracy and Kimberly (Tushan); step grandchildren Brandon, Tanisha, Tamia, and Ebony; step great grandchildren Zamyra and Azariah. Loving great aunts Marie, Edith and Carrie; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
