Gregory Sean Wendell Chaney was born February 13, 1975, in Philadelphia, PA – to Edward Sr. and Ruth Chaney. He was the fifth out of 6 siblings.
Gregory, affectionately known as Greg, was raised in a Christian household. He faithfully attended Sanctuary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Herman Tyler. There he was an active member with the Youth Ministry, Usher Board and Choir. In addition, as a young man he developed a fondest and talent for Boxing and Drawing. His creativity always set him apart from others.
In 1993, Greg graduated from Martin Luther King High School. In 1996, he enlisted into the United Stated Army. He valiantly served his country, until he was honorably discharged in, 1999. Upon re-entry back into civilian life, he earned a Certificate in Sterile Processing. Utilizing his military training and certifications, he faithfully worked alongside his father at their family-owned business, Chaney Cleaning Removal.
In 2001, Gregory had one of his proudest moment in becoming a Father to his oldest child, Adelyn. In the following years, he met and married Shelby Schanck, the love of his life. To this union, he gained two bonus children, Aliya and Cherod and together they became the parents of Sean and Zoey. Gregory undoubtedly was a dedicated family man, who believed in setting an example as a protector and provider. In 2018, Gregory moved his family to Atlanta, GA. There he directly applied some of his formal training and procured a position with WellStar Hospital, as an EVS Technician. During his tenure at WellStar he was recognized for his Above Expectation work ethic. Inasmuch, was widely known for going to extreme lengths to assist his fellow co-workers.
Gregory enjoyed life! As a jokester, it was always a fun time when he was around. This was evident in his Keep It Real advice, words of encouragement and infectious Smile. Gregory will forever be remembered for his quick wit and his charming personality.
On the evening of Sunday, February 14, 2021 – God summoned his angelic army to usher his Beloved Son, Gregory Sean Wendell Chaney, from LABOR to REWARD. PRAISE YE THE LORD!!!!
Preceding Gregory in death are his Grandparents: Willie and Mary Smallwood and Ophelia Giddens
He leaves to cherish his fond memories: His Loving Wife: Shelby Chaney; Children: Adelyn Chaney, Aliya (Michael) George, Cherod Butts, Jr., Sean Chaney and Zoey Chaney; Parents: Edward, Sr. and Ruth Chaney; Siblings: Edward Chaney Jr., Earl (Marva) Chaney, Eric Chaney, Maurice Chaney and Shante Chaney; Parental In-Laws: Gwendlyn Lewis, Donald Schanck, Sr. (Sarah); Brother-In-Law: Donald Schanck, Jr.; Sister-In-Laws: Pamela Dixon, Stephanie Schanck, Andrea Schanck, Dawn Richmond; Grandchildren: Jayden, Kai, Zion, Michael and a host of Nieces, Nephews and other extended family and friends.
