Viletta (May, May May, Ms Vern, Auntie May May) Vernon (nee Mortimore), age 63, got her wings and went to walk with the angels. On February 25 2021, born to Leonard and Icilda Mortimore (nee Palmer), born in Muirhouse Buxton, St Ann, Jamaica on 1 November 1957. She attended the Muirhouse primary school where she spent most of her childhood years creating early memories of a little girl’s development. She relocated with her parents to Trinityville, St Thomas where she attended Trinityville secondary school creating all the memories of her teenage and adolescent years. She was always someone with an empathetic eye for detail always willing to learn new things and helped in any way she can to those who are in need.
All throughout her life Viletta was known as a caregiver, provider, entrepreneur, a woman of god, hardworking, outspoken; passionate, fun-loving and a hero to all her families and friends. She became a street vendor at the age of 17 in the very busy streets of Kingston, Jamaica to assist her parents in providing for her 12 siblings which she loved dearly and treated as her own. As a result of her being such a caregiver to her parents and siblings she began her journey to motherhood at the tender age of 20 residing in the volatile community of Grants Pen, Jamaica. She gave birth to 5 children while living in Jamaica and had 2 additional children upon migrating to the United States of America which she shared with her beloved husband, Neville Vernon (Mr. George), they remained happily married for 30 years.
Villetta migrated to the United States of America in 1991 where she resided in New York City accepting menial job such as housekeeping, dog walker. Tired of the busy New York City life which can be a task, she reunited with her brother (Jent, now deceased) to a more residential life that was less hectic than NYC. She lived in the cities of Bridgeton and Vineland NJ respectively after leaving NYC. Being the independent person she is, Viletta wasn’t satisfied with doing just remedial jobs so she signed up for the Cumberland Home Health Aide course, after successfully completion of course with her friend of 30-years Mrs. Carlene Green, she worked as a Cumberland Homemaker for 2 years. She then began her employment at the Vineland Developmental Centre, Vineland, NJ where she worked as Direct Care and a CTS supervisor bring love and care to all those that she encountered.
She was a fun-loving person, loves dancing, enjoyed her bus trips to New York City, cooking, have family gathering, going to bingo, and visiting her families in Jamaica. She maintained a beautiful smile on her face.
She was the type of person that would ensure that she made you smile by trying to give you a joke or something to laugh about while you are in her presence. She overcame a lot of adversaries due to her strong religious belief and as a result today she has transitioned to a much better place being one of Gods chosen angels.
