Please share a memory of Emma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Emma Francis Jefferson was born October 26, 1937 in Sylvester, Georgia. She was one of twelve children born to the late Edward and Minnie Claitt. She departed life on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at home with her family in Middletown, Delaware.
She accepted Christ at an early age and became an active member of the Beulah
Grove Baptist Church. Emma was educated in the Public Schools of Georgia and Philadelphia. Years after graduating from Bok Vocational Technical School Emma graduated from the University of Pennsylvania.
In 1956, Emma met the love of her life, the late John Jefferson. On January 3, 1957 they were united in holy matrimony. To this union, three children were born, Jeffery, Lisa, and Robin. Emma was a devoted, loving, and caring mother; her love, wisdom an knowledge was shared with her husband, children, grands, great grands, nieces, and nephews. She was not a woman that mixed her words. Emma said what she meant, and she meant what she said.
Emma was ambitious, she never let anything stand in the way of accomplishing whatever she set out to do. She had an enormous love for her whole family. Whenever she was called upon, she went, assisting, supporting or taking the charge in whatever was needed done. She always opened her home to family, friends, or anyone in need. She was an excellent cook known for her sweet potato pie and corn bread stuffing. Emma enjoyed entertaining and serving others, she was an outstanding host. She would always say, "there's only one way and that's the right way."
After retiring from the Philadelphia Public School System, she became a successful entrepreneur and business owner of “Fine Hats” by Emma Jefferson. She was very fashionable and never stepped out the door uncoordinated from head to toe. She was a sharp-dressing woman who turned heads when she entered a room. She commanded attention with her great style, confidence, personality and smile. She traveled the world dressing ladies in the best fashionable attires from casual to Sunday best. In.... "the Hat, the Hat, the Hat."
As she rests peacefully in the arms of God, she leaves to cherish her memories and legacy of three children, Jeffery Jefferson (Brandon English), Lisa Rhodan (Aaron Rhodan), Robin Jefferson (Sterling and Starr Jefferson) one son-in-law Willis Rhodan, and two stepchildren, Elinda Jefferson-Dantzler (Daryl, Sharon, Teresa Dantzler) and the late Ronnie Hill (Tamika Hill), two God children and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
