Celebration of Life for
Markia L. Wilson
Sunrise: April 2, 1977 - Sunset: March 24, 2021
Markia L. (Johnson) Wilson passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving husband and son on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ, after a heroic eight-year battle with cancer. She was born on April 2, 1977 to Anthony Edward Johnson and the late Helen Patricia Walker at Rancocas Valley Hospital in Willingboro, New Jersey. Markia graduated from Cherry Hill High School West in 1995, Burlington County College (now Rowan College at Burlington County) in 1997 with an Associate of Science in Biology, and Rutgers University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. As much as she was a stellar student, Markia was also an exceptional basketball player earning several accolades as a forward and guard for Cherry Hill High School West and at the collegiate level, Burlington County College and Rutgers University.
Markia worked in the Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing industry with GlaxoSmithKline in Conshohocken, PA, and Merck & Co. in West Point, PA as a Recombivax and MMR Vaccine Manager. Upon her final moments, Markia was the Manufacturing Lead with Spark Therapeutics in Philadelphia, PA.
While attending college, playing basketball and working, Markia sacrificed much of her youth serving double as a big sister and parental figure to her two loving brothers who credit her for molding them into the men they are today. Losing their mother at a young age, Markia was the one who instilled countless lessons and values into Omar and Tywuan as she was navigating her own childhood and early years of womanhood. She was at every sporting and school event, award banquet, and prom. Wise beyond her years, she became a role model, mentor, teacher, and friend. She guided them right from wrong, taught them how to tie a tie and the importance of respecting women and people, all while embodying the meanings of selfless, strong, and nurturing.
In 1999 Markia met the love of her life, Jameil Wilson and they married in 2009. To this twenty-two-year partnership and twelve-year union, her only precious son, Jacobi was born. Markia cherished being a wife and mother. She especially enjoyed taking vacations with Jameil and Jacobi, attending Jacobi’s sporting events, crafting and refurbishing woodwork, spending quality time with her husband, and treasuring every moment with them both. Markia’s pride and joy was reflected in the intimate bonds she established within her family, undoubtedly transcending herself and charting paths forward. Her happiest moments were dedicated to sharing endless love amongst her beloved family and friends.
She is survived by her devoted husband Jameil Wilson; adored son Jacobi Wilson; brothers Omar (Valerie) Johnson and Tywuan Johnson; grandmother Eloise Terry; father and mother-in-law Jay and Betty Wilson; uncle Casey (Andrea) Walker Jr.; aunt Toni (James) McGarrah; aunt Joyce Walker; aunt Sharon Terry; brother-in-law Jay Johnson (Christina); sister-in-law Jill Renna (Christopher); cousin/brother Ray Harris; Godchildren Kayla Williams, twin nieces Sydney and Zoey Johnson; special family friend Kim Stephens and her children Marc Jr. and Brianna, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted for the Jacobi Wilson College Fund. Checks can be made payable to Jameil Wilson - on the memo line please indicate - Jacobi Wilson College Fund.
The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of love, concern, and kindness shown to them during this time of bereavement.
