Obituary of Charline Cunningham
Please share a memory of Charline to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charline Cunningham, the fifth child of the late Thomasina Cruel and William Henry Cruel was born on September 8, 1953 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. God called Charline home and she departed on Thursday, March 25, 2021.
Charline attended and graduated from Overbrook High School in June 1970. After graduating, she met George Cunningham and they were united in marriage and from their union, one child was born, Elvira Lewis (Kima).
After high school, she worked at a bonding company in Germantown as a secretary. She then worked for many years at Temple University as a secretary. She attended Temple University and received a Bachelor’s degree in Human Studies and Real
Estate.
Charline was a sweet, funny, kid, strong, caring, and loving mother, sister, and grandmother. She loved going shopping, eating good food, and riding in the car with Kima on the weekends. She enjoyed playing chess, computers, and going to the casino. When spending time with her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews,
Charline also enjoyed teaching how to play cards, chess, and checkers. She also tutored the youth with academic work from the neighborhood and family. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Charline was loved by her family and friends. She became ill and fought the battle as long as she could. God called her, picked her up, and carried her home where she would no longer be in pain. Now there’s no pain, just happiness and pure peace with the Lord. Charline was preceded in death by her mother
Thomasina Cruel, her father William Henry Cruel, and her brother William Cruel Jr.
Charline leaves to mourn her daughter Elvira Lewis (Kima) and her son-in-law Howard Lewis, adopted son Malcolm Byrd; sister Delores Harris, brother-in-law James Harris, three brothers John Thomas Cruel, sister-in-law Brenda Cruel, Steven Cruel, and Andre Cruel and sister-in-law Lynn Cruel; her grandchildren Howard Lewis III (Tre) and Jalen Lewis, niece Necole Harris (Nikki) , nephews James Harris (Jay) and Shawn Harris, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
