Obituary of Herbert A Jennings, Sr.

Herbert Alfred Jennings, Sr. was born on October 28, 1939, in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands to parents James Isaac Jennings and Helena Melvina Foy. Herbert received his education earning a diploma at Charlotte Amalie High School. He furthered his education into the field of trucking and during that time he met and married Rozina Ali. In this union, 6 beautiful children were born. As he continued in his career many years later his union ended with the lovely Rozina Ali. His career lead him to travel all over the country, during his travels Herbert met and married Mary Laura James. They shared a life for over 20 plus years until her passing on November 29, 2011. On March 22, 2017, Herbert retired from his career of being a Truckie. He spent his retirement years relaxing, from working on his truck to watching his favorite cowboy movies and listening to his country music. He loved his Western movies, you couldn’t get him to watch anything else unless it was a Saturday night fight. If you tried changing the channel he would stare you down and swear you in his island slang. Herbert lived a long life. He was 81 years of age when his spirit departed on March 30, 2021, at the Laurel Brook Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center at 9:30 a.m. in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. Herbert was able to share his final moments with his children. He left behind his immediate family. Children: Chavonne Jennings, Valerie Jennings, Herbert Jennings Jr., Jobed Jennings, Fikisha Jennings, Melinda Marcelle. Stepchildren: Tiffany Henderson, Tawana Henderson, Divine, Jeffrey Henderson, Maurice Henderson, and Tanzania Lawrence. Brothers: Verne, Robert, and Angel Jennings. Sisters: Verna Matos and Alana Scarbriel. And a host of Nieces, Nephews, (17) Grandchildren, (6) Step grandchildren (15) Great-grandchildren. Herbert was a strong and stern little Island Man and he’ll never be forgotten. May his soul rest in peace.
