Obituary of Annie Pearl Prince
Please share a memory of Annie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Annie Pearl Prince was born on June 19, 1950 and was the eldest child of Rebecca and Deatrice Harvey of Glassboro, NJ. She gained her wings and transitioned from this earthly life on April 18, 2021 after a brief illness, just two months shy of her 71st birthday. She was preceded in death by her father and daughter-in-law, LaVette Prince.
Annie was affectionately known by all as “Beany” and she would not hesitate to clarify that it was “Beany with a y”. She was educated in the Clayton School district in Clayton, NJ where she graduated from Clayton High School in 1969. She met and later married James Prince, Sr. Together they have a son, James “Manny” Prince, Jr. and a daughter, Jayonna Prince.
Beany was previously employed by Columbia Records in Pitman, NJ and Kimble Glass in Vineland, NJ for several years. She also jokingly has her employment listed as “Domestic Goddess” on her social media profile, but it was actually very accurate in that she kept an immaculate home. On any given day you could find her cleaning her house from top to bottom while singing along to gospel music. Her love for music also carried over into church when she sang with the Emanuel Baptist Church Gospel Ensemble and worked with the youth there.
Beany loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and other children in the family and in her community who looked to her as another mother. She loved to shop, and had a kind and giving heart. She also loved to talk on the phone and would often reach out to family and friends to check in on them and offer words of encouragement. Beany’s very frank and brutally honest conversations would no doubt have you in side-splitting laughter and in tears by the end. Her personality was completely infectious—to know her was to love her.
She will forever be loved and remembered by her husband, James; her children, Manny and Jayonna; her two grandsons, James Juwan Prince and Jayden Prince; her mother, Rebecca Harvey; one sister, Shirley McAfee; one brother, Richard Harvey (Deborah); one brother-in-law, Lonzo Prince (Shirley); two sisters-in-law, Naomi Steele (Marvin) & Evelyn Williams; five special nieces, Tammy (Raymoan), Shania, Erica, Yolanda, & Keisha; five special nephews, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Cedric (Dionne), Osco, Jr. (Laura), & Dorien; a Goddaughter, Ikeya; and a host of other special family members and friends.
