Obituary of Constance L Johnson

Constance “Connie” Johnson of Millville New Jersey, age 76, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2021, after a long-term illness. She was born in Woodstown, New Jersey, to the late Alice Robinson and George Simon. She is also predeceased by her older sister, Susan Oglesby and her younger brother, Steven “Buster” Banks. She is survived by her two brothers, George “Pete” Banks and Ronald Banks, her loving husband, John P. Johnson, Sr., their three children John P. Johnson Jr., Raymond R. Johnson and Paula L. Makuszewski, 8 foster children, 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Connie worked for Vineland Developmental Center for over 30 years. She served on the Board of Education in Millville, New Jersey for multiple terms. She also worked in Bridgeton Public School System as a teacher. She was a part of many organizations which include: John Wesley United Methodist Church of Bridgeton, New Jersey; Ionic Chapter No. 15, Order of the Eastern Star Prince Hall Affiliation State of New Jersey; Rho Rho Zeta Chapter Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated; the United Way of Cumberland County; Cumberland County Human Relations Commission; and the African American Breast Cancer Support Group. She also sat on the Board of Trustees at Vineland Developmental Center and was Past President of the Cumberland County NAACP.
She received 2 Master’s Degrees from Montclair University, New Jersey and Central Michigan University. Connie was an educator who supported people of all ages, especially our youth, with scholarship programs. She challenged them to set their goals high.
