Obituary of Mya Jackson
Please share a memory of Mya to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mya Vivian Mae Jackson was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA on October 31, 1976, to the late William Jackson and Nancy Jane Gary-Jackson. She was the oldest of two children born to this union. Mya was educated through the Philadelphia school system and graduated from Overbrook High School in West Philadelphia.
After graduating from high school, she obtained employment at the Ashley Stewart clothing stores where she worked in various locations in the city. Mya was in her twenties when she accepted the Lord in her life. Mya had a strong alto voice and used it singing to the glory of God with such groups as John Payton’s Ministry choirs: Divine Praise, Perfecting Holiness, Youth Delegation, and the Philadelphia Youth Mass Choir; as well as her home church—Community Church of God (Ambassadors for Christ).
In 2005 Mya decided to move to Texas and join the Collins family, where Pastor Collins had recently accepted a Pastorship. Mya joined the church becoming an active member of Mt. Rose New Life Center in Fort Worth; serving in the children’s ministry, praise team, sanctuary choir. Additionally, she served as First Lady Sheba Collins’ Adjutant and nurse.
Mya was a hard worker. She was employed for the night audit at the Holiday Inn Express for 5 years; still wanting to improve herself she enrolled at CCI Training Center and received certification as a Pharmacy Technician. She started work at the Select Medical inside Baylor Medical Center in Dallas and most recently worked tirelessly at CVS Caremark Rx call center.
Mya leaves to mourn in her passing, her brother Derin William Jackson, her uncle Paul M. Gary & aunt Gwendolyn Gary, uncle Leroy Holland, aunts Elizabeth A. Gary (godmother), Linda Jackson, Valerie Holland, and Geneva Holland, her besties: Chenna Strange, Chandra Bonham, Cynta West Outterbridge, Tujanna Jackson (cousin), Tierra Nivaro, and a host of other family members and many friends.
