Obituary
Obituary of Monique M Mitchell
Please share a memory of Monique to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Monique Mary Mitchell affectionately known as “Moe” was born on June 7, 1974, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late James Mitchell, Jr. and Amanda Mitchell (Cherry). Monique unexpectedly passed away on August 2, 2021, at the age of 47.
Monique spent her early years in Philadelphia, until the family came to Willingboro, NJ in 1985. She was educated in the Willingboro Public Schools and graduated from Willingboro High School in 1993. After high school, Monique chose a career path that would take her all over the world and enlisted in the United States Navy in December of 1994. Through the Navy, Monique became a culinary and management specialist until her Honorable Discharge in August of 2007 with twelve years of military service. Monique was awarded the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Humanitarian Service and many other service awards and medals. She was a faithful Seaman to her country.
After her career with the United States Navy, Monique entered a new career field of banking and began her journey in obtaining her college degree. She obtained her Associate of Arts (2014), Bachelor of Science in Business (2017), and her Master of Business Administration (2020), all from the University of Phoenix. Her banking career began as a teller with Santander then moving on to Wells Fargo as a personal banker building close relationships with businesses and consumers. Outside of cooking a great meal, Monique knew numbers and was about “her hustle.”
Monique’s greatest accomplishment in life was the birth of her son, James, on April 03, 2002. James was her all and she lived her life for him and did all she could to provide him with the best of everything. Monique, James, and Pop Pop Mitchell were three peas in a pod doing everything together until the death of Pop Pop in 2012.
Monique was a child of God and became a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church on June 7, 2009. She was baptized on July 5, 2009, under the oversight of Reverend Richard Jones.
Monique loved creating and trying out new culinary dishes. She loved traveling and planning vacations with her beloved son, James. Monique made sure to have multiple trips planned each year, from road trips, cruises, and excursions with James to weekends at Wildwood with her sister friends. She recently embraced the social media platform Tik Tok and loved sharing videos and talking to her followers via Tik Tok Lives. Monique was keen on fashion and loved showing off her fashion finds from Shein and outlet shopping; and loved making others jealous by showing off her footwear game a.k.a. the Shoe Cam.
Monique was preceded in death by her father, James Mitchell Jr. She leaves to celebrate and cherish her life, son James D. Mitchell, mother Amanda Mitchell, sister Ronalda (Rhonda) Harris, nieces Amanda Colzie and Danielle Godbolt and nephew David Godbolt Jr., her Sisters for Life, Tasha N. Ali, LaRae Grey, Tomona Jones Green, Cheryl Morton, Kara L. Williams, and a host of family and friends that love her dearly.
