Gailen Louise Huff was born on September 14, 1951, to the late William Sr. and Josephine Huff. She was preceded in death by her sister Marva Huff and her son Richard Huff
Gailen was educated in the Camden City Public School District and graduated from Camden High School, the class of 1969. She furthered her education at Glassboro State College and received a Bachelor of Arts, in Special Education. Gailen then went on to earn her Masters of Arts in Educational Administration at Cheyney State University. She crafted her talents in education and passed it on to her children. Gailen was a strong believer that the true education of a child initiates at an early age. Early Childhood Development Center was where her passion persisted as she retired from Camden Board of Education in 2015, as a Member of The Preschool Intervention and Referral Team.
Gailen was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Sorority, Incorporated As a member of the chapter she enjoyed working with the youth groups Xinos and Kudos. She often reminded them of Malcolm X's quote," That education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.' She encouraged them to pursue their higher education and give back to the community.
Gailen was a devoted mother and grandmother. She cherished the moments spent going to the movies, attending school activities, dance recitals, and sporting events. She often enjoyed traveling with her grandchildren to amusement parks, the beach and visiting out-of-state relatives. Birthdays were always celebrated with her children and grandchildren at a venue of choice. She firmly believed the most important thing in the world is family and love.
As a child, Gailen attended Mount Olivet Seventh Day Adventist Church where she attended Sunday School, Bible Study, and church services on a regular basis. At a young age, Gailen accepted Jesus Christ into her life and served the Lord faithfully.
Later, she became a member of St. John Baptist church under the leadership of Dr. Reverend Silas M Townsend. She attended services regularly and enjoyed praising the Lord. Gailen encouraged her children that God is Love. Whoever lives in love, lives in God and God in them.
