Obituary
Obituary of Barry Murdock
Please share a memory of Barry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Barry Norman Murdock, affectionately known as “Tugga,” was born on April 2, 1962. He was the baby of six children born to the late Eugene Murdock Sr. and Frances Grayson and departed this life on Monday,
August 30, 2021. Barry was educated in the Camden Public School System graduating from Camden High School, where he played football his freshman year. Two things Barry was infamously known for was his soulful voice and his sense of fashion. Whenever you saw Barry, he would be dressed in a suit with a fedora (hat) to match. As a child, he attended the Sydney School of Dance, where he studied tap and
interpretive dance, not yet realizing his love for singing. When he was 14 years old, he met Michael Jackson and the Jackson family, igniting his passion for music and dream to be a star. Music was his first love, and everyone who knew him knew it.
Barry started pursuing a singing career in 1983, where his first song was a remake of Stevie Wonder’s (You and I). Later in life, he would take his talents to New York City and appear twice on Showtime at the
Apollo, where he placed 2nd and 3rd. He participated in various talent shows throughout his life, sang at all family events, and most recently recorded a song entitled (One Day at a Time), where he sang about
sobriety.
Barry was a member of the Sindikit’s Club with Stephen “Fatman”
Bowman, Rex Cunningham, George Valentine, Vance “Monk”
Bowman, Sal Bowman, Wayne Dobson, Kenny Green, Craig Dobson, Kevin Brown, and Donny Hall. These were his guys.
Barry was preceded in death by his brother Bryon Caldwell and sister Shirley Shelton. He leaves to mourn two brothers Bruce Caldwell and Eugene Murdock Jr., sister-in law Michelle and sister Valerie
Brown. Six children Nadirah, Quineice, Barry, Ryan, Darnell (April)
& Shatoyah. 16 grandchildren Quadir, Tyreek, Khliah, Elonah,
Kimberly, Jaleerah, Jahkirah, Shavoz’e, Shavont’e, Quamir,
Ariquasha, Ayana, Tayon, Darnell Jr., Terrell, and Amari. 4
great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, as well as his girlfriend Joyce and a special cousin Zack.
