Obituary
Obituary of Edward M Marks
Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edward Matthew Marks was born on September 16, 1947, in Philadelphia, PA. He was the second child born to the late Oliver Marks and Juanita Mayhew Marks. After an illness, Edward, known to many as Ed or Bubbles, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2021.
He grew up in North Philadelphia/Germantown and was a proud graduate of the Class of “65” from Dobbins High School. While he attended the Community College of Philadelphia, he was drafted in to the United States Army. He was a Vietnam Veteran. He courageously fought on the front lines and was blessed to return home. He was awarded 3 bronze Service Stars, Combat Infantryman Badge, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a Marksman (Rifle).
Once he returned to the states, he reconnected with his high school friend and entered into a holy Matrimony to Lois Ruben, and of this union, one child was born: Lois Marks. He continued his career at the United States Post Office at 30th Street Station and retired from Belmar Post Office spanning over 37 years of service.
Edward was a lover of Old School music; R & B, Jazz, Rock, and Pop, so much that there wasn’t an entertainer or concert that he did not see or attend. He could recite songs, members in the band, and the year and location he saw the artist every time he heard a song on the radio. His adventurous nature led him into a world full of travel experiences such as the Olympics of 96, Folk Festival, World’s Fair 84, Da Nang, Tijuana, Randall's Island, Newport & Atlantic City’s Jazz Fest, and many other places. He was also a diehard Sixers, Eagles, and a “Philly” college basketball and football team fan. Edward enjoyed entertaining friends and family throughout the year with great music, food, and laughter. His skills on the grill with his infamous sauce were unmatched.
Edward was a kind and giving person. You could always count on him to refresh your memory with highlights from past shared occasions that he held close at heart. You couldn’t have a friend more loyal and loving than Bub!
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Oliver Marks Jr, Stanley Marks; and three sisters Janice Sewell, Mary Akers, and Juanita Boyer.
He leaves to mourn: his wife Lois Ruben Marks of 51 years of marriage, his daughter Lois Stewart (Winston) of Deptford, NJ; one brother Donald of Baconton, GA; one sister-in-law MaryAnn Marks ; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
