Obituary of Gerald A. Brown
Please share a memory of Gerald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gerald Anthony Brown was born November 26, 1956, to the late John and Mabel Brown of Lawnside, NJ. The third of eight children, Gerald was educated in the Lawnside and Haddon Heights school systems. As a child, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at Grace Temple Baptist Church. In December 2007, Gerald rededicated his life to the Lord and was baptized at Bethany Baptist Church.
From a young age, Gerald affectionately known as Yankee by his family and friends, had an entrepreneurial spirit and admirable work ethic that began when he took a paper route for Mr. Poppy Williams’ store. At aged 16, Gerald worked at Rickles Hardware store where he developed his skills in customer service. He later transferred this knowledge to his position as a hospital orderly at Ancora State Hospital where he took pride in caring for the needs of patients. After several years of working for companies such as Garden State Racetrack and the Camden County Parks Department, Gerald’s desire to have his own business led him to obtain his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and form his first business venture, Magic Touch Landscaping. Not long after acquiring his CDL, Gerald was able to purchase his own tractor trailers which fulfilled his goal of becoming his own boss.
Gerald had an adventurous spirit, that he loved to share with his family by introducing them to new places and activities. This included road trips to Maine with his grandmother, aunts and uncles; fishing and hunting with his father and later his son; visiting lakes for swimming and cookouts, family vacations to the Florida theme parks and Caribbean cruises to islands like Aruba. When he wasn’t traveling, Gerald enjoyed backyard barbeques, watching football and basketball games and playing cards on the weekend.
Gerald was preceded in death by his son, Gerald Lewis; brothers; Brian, John and Allen Brown and sister-in-law Anna Mae Brown.
Gerald leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Stacey Robinson; two daughters Brea Brown and Evelyn Lewis; one granddaughter, Maria; three grandsons, Jalen, Darnell, and Quamire; one godson, Joshua Lee; one brother, Mark Brown, three sisters, Denise, Wanda and Beatrice Brown; mother-in-law, Mary Bennett; three sisters-in-law, Jaqueline, Fran and Donna; six brothers-in-law; Leroy, George, Phil, Craig, Freddy and Keith; a special friend, Dorothy Lewis; lifelong friends Leonard Moore, Reuben Johnson, and Gregory Primas; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
