Obituary of Gregory L. Grimes
Please share a memory of Gregory to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gregory Lee Grimes Sr. transitioned from this life to his Heavenly Father at the age of 67 on September 23, 2021, at Jefferson Hospital with his devoted wife by his side. Greg wore many hats in his lifetime with little league baseball, Pal football, leading the Contour drill team, basketball star on the court, home run hitter on the baseball field and amazing quarterback for Palmyra High School, and Morgan State Bears. He also wore a coaching hat both for youth football and basketball, mentoring young men and women. A chef’s hat when he barbecued “Big G’s Slim Goodies ribs, we do barbecue for you “and the best hat he wore was husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather AKA Pop Pop. He lived his whole life in Palmyra and young boys in town wanted to emulate #18, as they played football on a field or in the street. “No, I’m Greg Grimes today!” The bond between him and his late father-in-law “Sonny” Long put another hat on him as a truck driver, working for different companies until he got his own and became an owner operator.
The other hat that he wore was the helmet of salvation! Giving his life to Christ and sharing his love for the Lord with anyone who would listen. Holding close to their hearts to keep his memories alive are his wife Nancy, daughter Monica, sons Gregory “G” and Jonathan. Grandchildren Mikiah, Demetrias, Londyn and Zyan. Great grandchildren Jakiah and Nova. And can’t forget his road dog (literally) Cisco. He also leaves to cherish his father Carl Paxton, predeceased mother Daisy Grimes, sisters Gail Witcher, April Grimes, Kim Grimes, Linda Ann Paxton, Lori Paxton, Elaine Casey, Deborah Scott (Lenno) LaVonda Wright (Jerry). Brothers Alvie Grimes, Brian Grimes, Michael Borden, predeceased brother Carl (Bogga) Borden, wife Barbara and Lawrence Borden. Mother-in-law Yvonne Long, God mother Jenae Butler a host of Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in laws out laws and friends.
