The Obituary For Rachel Reed Walton
Rachel (Speller)Reed Walton was born November 25, 1936, in the town of
Williamston, North Carolina to the late Harry Lee Speller and Hattie (Williams)Speller.
Rachel was the oldest of nine children. Rachel completed her education in the North Carolina school system. Rachel resided in North Carolina with her first-born daughter and then relocated to New York for several years until
settling down in New Jersey.
Rachel met Norman James Reed Jr., and with their union they conceived six beautiful children. After many years of heavenly bliss. In 1973, Rachel faced one of life’s worse tragedies with the lost of Norman James Reed Jr.
Rachel continued her journey of being a single mother. With a heart of Gold and building a foundation of a spiritual home, GOD blessed her with another child which became one her own.
Rachel providing unconditional love became the neighborhood mom. Giving advice, love, and encouragement to all those who needed it with a smile.
Rachel always believed “It took a village to raise a child”.
After 20 years of employment at Vineland State School she retired to enjoy cooking, family gatherings, babysitting and conversations.
Rachel was proud of being a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great, great grandmother. As they all arrived, she was the first to babysit and enjoyed every minute of it!!
Rachel reached another journey in her life meeting her companion, friend, and love Frank Davis aka (Poppie). After spending 30 years together Rachel lost Poppie six months prior to her sunset on October 30, 2021.
Rachel was and will always be the Queen in all our lives and will truly be missed.
Rachel was proceeded in death by her father, Harry Lee Speller, Mother, Hattie (Williams) Speller; Husband, Norman James Reed Jr; two children,
Brenda Walton and Veronica Graves; 3 brothers, John Speller, June Speller and Roy Speller; one sister, Dorethea Fowler; brother in law Willie Lee Ritter; one Grandson, James Reed; one great grandson, Quadir Dalton Reed and
significant other Frank Davis (Poppie).
Rachel leaves to cherish her memory her passing of four daughters, Mamie (Phillip) Perry, Jacqueline Vauters, Vanessa Reed (Tyrus Walker), Lisa (Drew) Harris; two sons, Norman James (Barbara)Reed III, Jonathan Lee (Taifa) Reed; a son in law Lewin Graves; a sister in law Hattie Still; a brother, Lewis Speller, two sisters, Adele Doty and Lucy Ritter; special friends Patricia Jackson, Viola Price, Genevieve Brown and Lucy White; god-daughter; 21 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, 7 great, great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
