Elva M. DeFoor-Harris
Mrs, Elva DeFoor-Harris was born April 28, 1953 in Venton, Maryland from Mother Evelyn L Yates and Father Philip Yates.
She traveled across the world with her parents in the Army. Sometime later, after high school, she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Until she met her first husband, Henry I. DeFoor Jr, a U.S. Marine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the Naval Station, they married and had two children, Henry I. DeFoor III and Dawn O. DeFoor, for 13 years, the family lived in various duty stations. The last Marine Station was in Hawaii for four years.
She divorced and moved to New Jersey to be closer to her family, her mom, and brother Brian Carrie. Elva was an excellent cook and baker. It took her a while to make the perfect biscuit, but she perfected it. Elva made the best out of her situation. She made sure her kids had what they needed: food, clothes, lunch money, and Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorite holidays. She went all out on the food. Mom had an
opportunity to work in the New Jersey School system as a special education teacher assistant and then worked her way into an associate degree to become a teacher. Elva soon met a man who also worked for the school system. Austin Leon Harris, a single father with three daughters Audrey Harris, Kay Harris, Sofia Harris.
Austin and Elva started going to the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Camden. They Fell in love and married and bought a house where they lived for thirty years. Elva was very spiritual and became an Ordained Preacher. Also had a radio prayer line that has helped an abundance of people. She lived her life for the word of God.
Surviving members Her mother, Evelyn Childs Gaines, Brother Brian Carrie, Henry I DeFoor III and his wife Rosalinda DeFoor, Daughter Dawn O,
Chandler, Stepdaughter Audrey Harris, Kay Harris, Sofia Harris, and her
husband, and several, nieces, nephews, grandkids, aunts, uncles, other relatives, cousins, & friends.
