Obituary of Sarah J Worley

Sarah Jeanette Worley was born to Isaiah and Emma Burrell in Williamsburg, Virginia on March 18, 1924. Sarah was one of twelve children. The Lord saw fit to call her home on Friday, December 24, 2021. She passed peacefully in her own home with her family at her bedside.
The Burrell family moved to Camden, New Jersey when she was two years of age. She attended Camden City schools, graduating from Camden High School. She later received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Glassboro State Teacher’s College (now Rowan University) in 1947.Sarah enjoyed working with children. She began her teaching career at Faith Tabernacle, a private school in Camden. Most of her teaching career was in the Camden School System at Northeast Sewell School in North Camden. There she enjoyed over 34 years working with only a class of boys until the school became co-ed. During that time, she received numerous certificates of appreciation while in the classroom and as Reading Teacher in Camden and Cherry Hill.
Sarah volunteered to teach Arts & Crafts to a group of girls at the YWCA camp on Stevens Street in Camden in 1948. She received a letter of appreciation for her active interest in the campers and the camp program as well, which the director claimed contributed to the success of the camp. After joining Kaighn Avenue Baptist Church (K.A.B.C.) as a teenager, she became a Sunday School teacher working with all ages of children. She received a Standard Assembly Diploma from the Young People’s Assembly of the Afro-American Baptist State Convention.
Sarah served on the K.A.B.C. usher board with the young people; sang with the Women’s Choir; worked with the NAACP and received a lifetime membership plaque.
Sarah took pleasure in several hobbies such as sewing, gardening, knitting and decorating. Bowling was her favorite sport.
After joining Kaighn Avenue Baptist Church she was united in Holy Matrimony with her husband Nathaniel Worley. From this union they were blessed with three children: Nathaniel Jr., Linda and Arnet.
Sarah was preceded in death by her 11 brothers and sisters. She leaves to mourn her three children Nathaniel Worley, Jr. (Chong Ok), Linda Worley-Edwards and Arnet Worley, Sr. (Gloria); six grandchildren: Masten Worley (Angeline), Nia Washington (James), Myles Worley, Lily Worley, Arnet Worley Jr., Ryan Worley; eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
