Sunrise October 9, 1932 - Sunset January 7, 2022
Mrs. Vera Mae (Deer) Wright was born October 9, 1932 in Birmingham, AL to Josephine (Mazon) Deer. She, along with her eldest brother, Maxwell, her mother moved to Brooklyn, NY in 1944 where she was raised by her mother and step father William Streeter.
In 1956, while living in New York, Vera met her husband, Joe Wright, and after a whirlwind courtship they married on April 15, 1957. To this union six children were born. As a U.S. Armed Forces family, they travelled the world and settled in Mt. Holly, NJ in 1971. Her beloved husband preceded her in death in 1984.
Vera worked for the State of New Jersey for several years, the Burlington County Library and Burlington County Social Services which she retired from in 1997. Her passion was art and she spent many of her retirement years drawing, painting, and teaching art classes at the Center for the Arts in Marlton, NJ. She was also active in the art community at the Smithville Mansion-Underground Railroad Museum and Educational Center, Burlington County Library and other organizations.
She leaves us with a legacy of strength, courage and love. She was quiet and gentle. She loved her family and touched many lives.
At the age of 89, our mother, a sweet and bright light, entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 7, 2022 at home, surrounded by her children.
She is also preceded in death by her mother, Josephine Streeter, brother Maxwell Deer, sister, Josephine Streeter, and brother, William Perry Streeter.
Left to cherish these and other memories are her children, Yvonne Lemane, Valerie (James) Kinlaw, Karen (Henry) Gates, Byron Wright, David Wright and Diane Wright. Grandchildren Eugene Frayer, Erika (Elson) Greenidge, Munes (Paula) Lemane, Marques Lemane, Brynn Wright, Krystal Wright, Maxwell Wright, Matthew Wright, Danyelle Gates, Quincy Gates, brothers Arthur Streeter and Robert Streeter, niece Karla Deer and a host of beloved great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
