Vance Dixon was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 8, 1948, to the late Lucy Dixon and Fred Anderson. Vance resided in Willingboro NJ until he was called home to God on Wednesday February 16, 2022.
Van, affectionately called by his family and friends, was educated in the Philadelphia School System and graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School.
While attending Benjamin Franklin High school, Van played Defensive Back on the Varsity football team.
On July 25, 1969, Van married the late Alice Henderson and was her primary caregiver until her death in 2014. The union was blessed with two children, Chante and Ashley. Van later remarried Judy Powers and they shared a wonderful, retired life together until Van’s recent passing.
Dedicated to building family life, Van maintained an extremely industrious work ethic. Upon graduation from high school, he worked for the Campbell Soup Company until his retirement in 1990 and immediately began a career as a bus driver for New Jersey Transit. It was no surprise that the regular passengers on his route loved him as he transported them along his daily routes. Van worked for New Jersey Transit until he retired in 1999.
Van loved Jesus. His spiritual journey bought him to Mt Zion Pentecostal Church of God in Christ in Philadelphia under Pastor Zan Chancy. Van and Judy were faithful members and attended services weekly until the pandemic prevented attendance. In addition, Van did a weekly bible study with a friend in Willingboro.
Van had a very gregarious personality and a highly infectious laugh. During his high school days, Van was very popular. He had wide and varied interests and hobbies. He was a boxer and a martial artist. He was a sharp dresser and an outstanding dancer who choreographed his many dance steps. He was always the star of any social gathering.
Van was an accomplished musician as well as a dancer. He played drums, piano, and organ. He entertained his family and neighbors by frequently giving concerts in his home. In addition, Van was on the cutting edge of all the new innovations. He was the first to get HBO and hold regular movie nights for his family and friends.
Van leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Judy; daughter Chante Dixon; son Ashley Dixon; 2 granddaughters, Madison and MacKenzie; step-daughter Tycina Richardson and her children, Brittany, Tylin, and Lanae; step-mother Janice Anderson, 2 brothers, Ernest (Linda) and Kermit, 1 sister Dena Smith; 2 nephews, Ernest (Sheila); Courtney; 3 nieces, Seane (Michael); Cydney, and Devon; 2 special cousins, Gordon (Tina) and Douglas (Dee) Dixon; and a host of other nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, and friends.
