Please share a memory of Raymond to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Raymond Gibson Sr was born June 5, 1940 in Chesterfield South Carolina to the late Charlie & Sallie Bell Gibson. He passed from this life into his eternal life on March 11,2022 at home.
At an early age, Raymond accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined McLain Grove Missionary Baptist Church and received his education through Chesterfield County School System.
Raymond moved from Chesterfield, SC to Camden, Nj in the early 70’s where he lived most of his life. Raymond did all sorts of jobs until he settled with being a mechanic. Fixing cars was something he enjoyed and loved to do. He worked on cars for over 40 years until he retired in 2003.After being together for over 40+ years, Raymond and Catherine married Nov.1 2008.It’s never often you see one and not the other. Raymond enjoyed fishing, and going to the casino. He also enjoyed going to the Palmyra Flea market. His favorite pastime was cooking. He used to make ribs so good that you licked your fingers afterwards. He wouldn’t share his recipe with anyone, and if you got it, he would purposely leave out one key ingredient. Raymond enjoyed fixing things. When he could no longer do the things he enjoyed the most, he passed time by building and fixing things around the house. Raymond also enjoyed sitting outside under the tree with his wife or going to Walmart with his wife and home health aide. Raymond was hard but always fair. If he had it and you needed it, you got it.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents Charlie & Sallie Bell Gibson, his daughter Annie Lee Crawford, his son Raymond Gibson Jr,grandson Celassie Velasquez, six brothers Thomas, Elijah, Lester, Robert Lee, Charlie Wesley, and Benjamin Gibson and nine sisters Willie Mae and Martha Hannah, Ada Lee Huntley, Carrie and Grace Gibson, and Myrtle and Gladys Redfearn, Lois Horne and Mary Blakeney.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory: his wife Catherine Gibson; two daughters Cynthia Gibson of Virginia, Renee (Douglas) Nash of Greensboro, NC; one step daughter Barbara (Curtis) Bussey; two step sons Lee and Bernie Marshall of Camden, NJ; one aunt Virginia McLaurin of Baltimore, MD; one brother Roy Gibson of Charlotte, NC; two sisters Listeria (Wilbert) Lewis, Mahalia Morrow both of Cheraw, SC; thirteen grandchildren, thirty three great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews family and friends.
