HIS STORY
On April 4, 2022, God in his infinite wisdom, called home one of his angels…
Walter Ulysses “Apple Jenks” Jenkins
His journey began on March 4, 1940, in Plainfield, NJ when God blessed Carrie and Ulysses Jenkins with their only son.
Walter attended Plainfield High school where he was a standout basketball player. After graduating high school, he worked as a Drug and Alcohol Abuse Counselor for the State of NJ.
In 1969, he married Beverly Richardson after a short courtship of just 2 months.
Walter and Beverly relocated to Camden, NJ In 1973 due to a work transfer. After moving to Camden, Walter began working as a Professional Painter for Camden County Youth Detention Center@ Lakeland Complex. He held this position for over 25 years until his retirement in 2005.
Walter loves sports, especially football. He spent many years volunteering as a youth football coach for Centerville Simbas. He is also a proud Philadelphia Eagles fan.
Walter loved to get dress and look sharp! His good looks and suave demeanor earned him the nickname “Apple Jenks”. He also enjoyed jazz music and walking the park every morning. Most of all, Walter enjoyed spending time with family and getting together with his loved ones to go out to eat.
Walter is preceded in death his parents Ulysses and Carrie, his mother-in-law Bernice Miller, and his sister Margaret (John) Stewart.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly, and his children: Walter U. Jenkins Jr, Kenneth D. Jenkins, Nichole S. Jenkins, Darren L. Jenkins (Bayyinah), Tremayne T. Jenkins (Naimah), and step-daughter Joanne D. Williams; his grandchildren: Daija, Chantel, Kenea, Julian, Quataysia, Carolyn, Jaterrin, Darren II, LeeQuan, Deron, Damien, Londynn, Aileema, and Kamarii; great-grandchildren: Daijor, Sage and Aiden; brother-in-law James Smithton; sisters-in-law: Sandra Nelson (Neal), Donna Fitpatrick (Dirk), and Karen Pettiford; and a special nephew, who was more like a son, Laurent Hargrove. Walter had a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends that he loved dearly.
