Obituary of Artice Mooney
Please share a memory of Artice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On the evening of April 15, 2022, God gave Artice his wings to fly home and be delivered from sorrow and pain … he is in eternal peace in heaven.
Artice James Mooney was born on June 10, 1941, in Chesson, Alabama to the late James Mooney and Mary (Hill) Mooney. He was the eldest of nine children, of which his brother, Moses Mooney, and sister Laura Mooney, preceded him in death. He accepted Christ at an early age and practiced the wishes of the Lord.
After attending school Artice left Alabama and headed north to pursue better job opportunities. He landed a job at Griffin Pipe in Florence, NJ, where he worked for over 35 years until retirement and made New Jersey his home. He had a true love for ministry and was a member of several churches throughout his life; but in his latter years he was a faithful and active Deacon of Fighting for Christian Ministries, a church he loved with members he adored and a Pastor, Reverend-Dr. Denice A. Waite, he affectionately called Momma.
Artice attended First Baptist Church in Riverside, New Jersey, under the leadership of Rev. Michael Z. Skillings, with his wife, Shirley Ann Mooney, and family. He faithfully attended weekly Sunday Worship, Bible Study, and Men's Fellowship, with a passion for Street Evangelism. He was also a Watchman and unofficial Security Force praying and watching over everything and everyone during those outreach events in Burlington and Camden County. Because of his faithful service to the Lord Jesus Christ, he was elevated to the office of Deacon, by Rev. Skillings, Pastor of Healing Word Christian Center, Camden, NJ.
In 1979, Artice married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Dykes. From that union his beloved son, Kenneth Mooney, was born and he gained another son, Earl Jones, Jr., whom he adored. Throughout his life, he worked several jobs and was a great provider for his family, but his greatest achievements were being a dedicated husband to his wife, Shirley, of 42 years, and a positive role model for his two sons, Kenneth and Earl. Both of whom he loved very much.
Anyone who knew Artice knew he had a great love for cars … they were his pride and joy. And, contrary to the jeans and tee-shirts he loved to wear, he was a sharp dresser and loved to shop with his wife, Shirley. He served as a long-time Deacon of his church and enjoyed traveling with members of the church spreading the Gospel. He also loved playing bingo at the senior center and watching his favorite TV shows on the ION channel. He had a strong presence with a playful spirit. To know him was to love him. His adoring smile and southern charm will be “deeply” missed.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Kenneth J. Mooney and Earl H. Jones, Jr. (Tonya Carter); one daughter, Angela Connor; one granddaughter, Aniya Timbers; two brothers, Eddie and Albert Mooney; four sisters, Alice Williams (Lee Ernest Williams); Ella Mae Williams (Walter Williams) and Rosetta Mooney of Montgomery, Alabama, and Josephine Mooney of Norwalk, Connecticut; sister-in-law, Mary Sutton and three nephews, Steven, Michael and John Sutton; Goddaughter, Dawn “Sheree” Fontaine; very dear friends Esther and Lee Tabb, Elder Cynthia Carter, Pastor Ramona Williams and husband, Mark Williams, Overseer Tiffany Waite-Reid, Angela and Angelo Russell, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
