Obituary of Doris E. Govan
Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Doris Elizabeth Govan, affectionately known as “Mutsy”, was born
October 11, 1940, to the late (Father) Thomas Holley and (Mother) Mary
Ellen Holley (nee Outlaw) at home in Colerain, NC. Doris was the youngest
of her 15 siblings. She attended Colerain Elementary School then onto
Powellsville High School, where she earned the academic title of
Salutatorian for her graduating class. Four years post-graduation, Doris
moved north to the Philadelphia area with her sister Mary “ShugaBabe”
Sessoms (nee Holley). After her relocation, Doris obtained her Associate
Degree in Early Childhood Education from Camden County College.
She worked for several years in the Camden School District. She also worked
for Tyco and Patco Speedline during the mid to late 80’s. It was during the
early1990’s wherein she found her niche as a professional housekeeper for
the Levine and Aglialoro families until she retired in 2008.
Doris was a kind, humble, giving, hospitable and loving person. Mutsy
loved the Lord as well as her home church of Parkside United Methodist
Church for over 40 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and
friends, as well as watching any Philadelphia Phillies game. For as long as
she was physically able; you could catch mom outside cleaning and
sweeping. She took great pride in having an immaculate yard and curb
appeal for her home. She had a passion for animals too. Trix, Kitty Boots,
Brutus and Lilly just to name a few.
It didn’t matter if they were a house
pet or an outside stray…Ol’ Mutsy was gonna feed them.
Doris Govan was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her 15 older
siblings. She leaves to cherish her loving memory: Children - Elizabeth
“Peaches”, Julian “Juju” and Christian “Kwee-Kwoe”; Grandchildren -
Maylana (Nigel), Tavia, Christian “Mayshohn”, Maximus; Great
Grandchildren - Kori and Remi. Her dearest niece/friend Sandra Austin and
a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
