Vernon Lee Lucas was the son of Alim Baye-El (Washington A. Gantt) and Lydia Gantt (Lucas). He was born March 30, 1954 in Camden, New Jersey the oldest brother of Ten siblings.
Vernon was educated in the Camden public school system, then he entered the US Army where he served from 1972-1976. Vernon moved to Philadelphia PA., where he resided for several years. He worked for Philadelphia Septa transportation Company for many years as a Maintenance Worker.
Vernon was the life of the party full of sarcasm and love but he had to have his potato salad. One of his favorite past times was playing dominos and talking trash; winning was his goal whether you were 5 or 55.
Preceding in death by his father, Alim Baye-El, mother Lydia Gantt-Lucas, Sister Lydia Gantt, daughter Kimberly Sawyer, Son Vernon Lucas Jr.
Vernon leaves behind to cherish his memories: His children Roxanna Trent (Frank), Son-in-law Bernard , Irvin Shanks Sr. (Tiffeny), Lavern Cabrera (Freddie), Monique Broscious, and Kyle Shands.
Three brothers, Alvin Gantt, Chet Gantt (Denita) and Royce Davis (Vanessa); 5 Sisters, Helen Mitchell (Andre), Arleen Fowlkes (Tyrone), Kelly Baylor-Rivers (Chreshull-deceased), Victoria Davis and Nasheeda Brooks. 16 grand-children and 13 great grand-children. 5 Aunts, Brenda Harper, Leoma Crone, Margaret Bush, Louise Lewis and Rose Conyers. A host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and cherished Friends.
