Obituary
In memory of Geraldine Slaughter, born Geraldine Mable Bumbry. She was the second child born to Lomax and Elizabeth Bumbry on November 22, 1938; she was born and raised in Dalhgreen, Va.,King George County. Geraldine, nick-named "Gerri", attended Ralph Branch High School before marrying Armsted Evans and moving to Haddonfield, New Jersey in 1956.
Gerri had seven children: Sheila Simmons, Veronica Thompson, Keith Evans, Troy Evans, Eric Evans, Gail Evans, and Jeffery Evans. She gave 22 years of dedicated service to the former Lakeland Psychiatric Behavioral Health Hospital in Camden County New Jersey, and she was very fond of sewing, gardening, thrift shopping, spending time with her family, and cooking her infamous fried chicken. In addition, she was a faithful member of Evergreen Baptist Church in Palmyra, NJ, serving under Rev. Guy Cambell.
Geraldine is preceded in death by her parents Lomax and Elizabeth Bumbry, her late husband James Slaughter, her oldest child Sheila Simmons, her youngest daughter Gail Evans, her great grand-child Rafi Felder, her only sibling Ruth Bland and brother-in-law Robert Bland. Gerri was loved and adored by her family, and she leaves to cherish her memories; her surviving 5 children, 8 grandchildren, 13 great- grands, a niece Nadine Lucas, a nephew Gilbert Bland, and many other friends and family members including a longtime friend Jean Taylor.
