Obituary of Harold A Scriber, Sr.

Harold Sr was born in Philadelphia, Pa on November 20, 1936, to the late John and Lucille Scriber. He grew up in the Elmwood section of Philadelphia attending public schools and graduated from John Bartram High School where he lettered in track and basketball. Harold closed his eyes and went to the Lord on August 16th, 2022, at the age of 85 while doing his favorite past time listening to jazz music. The last song he listened to was Otis Redding “Try a Little Tenderness”.
Harold was the middle child of nine reuniting in Glory with George, Beatrice, Geraldine, John Jr, Lucille, and Barbara. He is survived by his loving sister Sarah Tucker and brother Kenneth & Marie Scriber. They grew up in a strong Christian household, holding tight to strong family values and closeness. Assuring they passed these values on to the next generation.
In 1954 Harold joined the Airforce branch of the Armed Forces. He enlisted as a finance specialist, having been stationed in Peru, India and Toyoko, Japan. While in the Air Force he played basketball for the National Team. He was Honorably Discharged in 1962.
Harold proposed and Jacqueline Harris accepted. They were married and created their home in Camden, NJ. From their union came four children Darron, Roslyn, Harold Jr, and Brad. He leaves behind daughter-in-law Robin, Gina, Jen, and son-in-law Max. 8 grandchildren Nanina, Marcus, Shane, Harold 3rd, Samantha, Harrison, Darron Jr, Devon 6 great grandchildren Shaniya, Ariana, Elissia, Luca, Jaxon, Zane.
Harold was raised in St. George St. Barnabas Episcopal Church Philadelphia, Pa. After matrimony he worshipped at Asbury United Methodist church, recommitting his life to Jesus under the tutelage of Pastor Dennis L Blackwell. Harold’s ministry was heading the homeless outreach program which provided shelter, food, clothing, and spiritual guidance. He was a lover of people, conversation, music, and was a fantastic storyteller.
Harold was the consummate hustler he was always working. He managed John’s bargain stores which purchased the 5 & 10 locations throughout Camden County. He retired from the Camden County Board of Social Services where he worked in the Welfare and Housing department. Not being able to sit still after retirement, Harold worked at the Homestead Youth Association for many years.
