Obituary of Alfreda Fisher
Please share a memory of Alfreda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alfreda Delois Fisher was born on January 14, 1951, to the late Alfred and Celestine Simmons in Portsmouth, Virginia. She was an only child. She experienced her peaceful transition on August 31, 2022, at Jefferson Hospital in Cherry Hill, NJ.
Alfreda was educated in the Camden school system and graduated in 1970 from Camden High school.
She met the love of her life James Fisher “Junie” and after two years of courtship they were joined together in holy matrimony on September 22, 1973. From this union were born three handsome sons as she would comment and one adorable daughter. As they raised their children, family was important to her and Junie. Their hearts were open to so many more children in need and their home became a safe haven of love and acceptance.
Alfreda accepted the Lord as her personal savior at a young age and was a longtime, faithful member of First Refuge Baptist Church where she served prior to joining the Antioch Baptist Church. Alfreda was a faithful member who supported the First Refuge Baptist Church financially and spiritually under the leadership of the late Rev. G. T. Hairston.
Deaconess Alfreda Fisher joined the Antioch Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. John O. Parker on February 9, 1992. She faithfully served her Church giving of her time, talent, and treasure as the Lord purposed in her heart to give. Deaconess Fisher served on the pastor aides, greeters, praise dance, and the marriage ministries. She was later elevated to the Ministry of Deaconess where she served for over 20 years and held the office of Chair Lady. She was a faithful member of the Wednesday Night Bible Study. Deaconess Fisher was committed to serving and supporting her church for 30 years as the Lord allowed. She will be remembered for being a true fashionista, engaging you with a warm smile, and her great love of children & travel.
Alfreda was trained and certified as a State of New Jersey Daycare Program Director at her home since 1985. As she was phasing out her daycare center, she was awaiting approval to become a foster parent. She was sought after by many families to watch their children so much so that she had a waiting list. She was a safe haven for many foster children and was blessed to retire in 2005.
She lived her life to the fullest traveling with her husband on many cruises, but she especially enjoyed their cruise to Alaska where she saw the glaciers and the picturesque scenery which was breathtaking. She also enjoyed a memorable vacation to Hawaii with her husband Junie.
During her time of illness, she was blessed to have amazing Healthcare professionals from DaVita Dialysis who provided excellent care. She fought hard until God spoke and said come home my child and rest.
Alfreda has left an impact on many lives on this side of heaven and will be missed by all.
