Virginia Joyce Johnson was born on August 8, 1938, to the
late Larney and Eleanor Carson in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania. The early years of her life were spent in the
Elmwood section of the city with her five siblings including
Larney Jr., Randall, Lora, Eileen, and Jane. She
affectionately gained the nickname “Toots” from her mother.
Virginia was educated in the Philadelphia School District
through K-12 attending McKeen Elementary School, George
Wolf Middle School, Tilden Junior High, and John Bartram
High School. Her senior year of High School she participated
in a co-op allowing her to gain a skill set working at Central
Penn National Bank. She continued her professional career
as a bookkeeper at various organizations throughout the
Philadelphia area.
On November 23, 1974, Virginia married the love of her life
the late William Kenneth Johnson. Their union lasted 38
years until his untimely departure. They had no children
together, but spent their time loving their nieces and
nephews as their own. She was a huge supporter of her
nieces' and nephews' endeavors and gave the most
thoughtful gifts to celebrate their accomplishments.
Virginia was a kind-hearted person who would give her last
to help someone. Her favorite color was green, and she loved
earth tones. Her favorite food was Italian by far. Most of all
she was an avid lover of listening to music and enjoying
quality time with her family.
Virginia is survived by her 3 sisters and 1 brother-in-law
including Lora Gaskins, Eileen Mosley, Elwood Mosley, and
Jane Washington. She will forever by loved and missed by a
host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
