Obituary of Terrence E. Buie

LIFE STORY OF TERRENCE “TERRY” EDWARD BUIE Terrence Edward Buie was born on October 20, 1963 to Margie Toler (predeceased) and Edward Buie (predeceased). Terrence was promoted, received his wings, and ascended to his eternal home in Heaven on April 4, 2023. Terrence was raised in North Philadelphia and grew up in church. As a child, he loved playing basketball with his friends at the neighborhood playgrounds. At a young age, he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Terrence was truly a movie buff and enjoyed movies that starred his favorite actor, Sidney Portier. His all-time favorite movie is "To Sir, with Love." Terrence was a product of the Philadelphia School System and graduated from Franklin Learning Center in 1981. He then attended the Community College of Philadelphia, earning an associate degree in Business. On October 22, 1994, Terrence married the love of his life, Annie, whom he met right next door to his childhood home. While dating, they spent every minute with each other and knew they were meant to be together. After less than six months of dating, Terrence asked Annie to marry him. They have six amazing children. Terrence was a loving, devoted, honorable husband, companion, and friend. As a hands-on dad, Terrence taught his children the importance of praying, being respectful, striving to achieve their goals, and being who God called them to be. He enjoyed making the kids lunches for school, attending their concerts or recitals, taking them to doctor's appointments, going to the movies, and bowling. Terrence started his career in law enforcement with the SEPTA police department, working on both the Broad Street line and EL. While on patrol, he worked in different capacities including plain clothes and Anti-Crimes units. After a stellar career working the streets of Philadelphia, he was transferred to the SEPTA Office of the Inspector General where he investigated various crimes against SEPTA by the general public and employees. Some of his investigations included working with the FBI, DEA, Division of Taxation, and Treasury. In May 2003, he began working for the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice. Prior to his assignment to the Office of Securities Fraud & Financial Crimes, Terrence served in the Organized Crime & Gangs Unit, the Office of Insurance Fraud Prosecutor, and the Corruption Unit. While Terrence worked on many impactful investigations and cases, his greatest contribution was in the service of others as a Resiliency and Outreach Detective. He was quick to volunteer his services for outreach events and found great joy in assisting members of law enforcement with stressful situations. Terrence also offered chaplaincy services to Division members. During his career, he received many awards for bravery and service. In addition to his many years with Law Enforcement, Terrence was also committed to advancing education for future generations. He served several years as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Law and Justice Studies at Rowan University. In 1995, Terrence & Annie were invited by friends to a Sunday service at Living Faith Christian Center. After visiting a couple of times, they became members. During his membership at LFCC, he accepted the call on his life and dug deeper into the Word of God under the teachings of the late Pastor Lamont McLean. Terrence's love for learning motivated him to continue his education. His pursuit of higher education earned him two degrees from the University of Phoenix- a Bachelor of Science in Business Management (2007) and a Master of Science in Management (2009). At the time of Terrence's passing, he was six credits shy of obtaining a Doctorate degree. This was one of his biggest desires as he always set out to finish what he started. Terrence was passionate about the well-being of all individuals in his presence. He always had a strong desire to serve others. In 2016, Terrence and his family joined The Family Church (TFC) in Voorhees, NJ, under the tutelage of Pastors Ted and Dawn Winsley. Terrence was instrumental in the infancy stages of TFC assisting in the successful launch and becoming a church pillar. Terrence served as a faithful spiritual son, church board member, and was ordained as a deacon on January 5, 2020. In addition, he served in various areas of ministry: Coordinator for Family Life Ministries, Security, Prayer, Men's Ministry, Adult Education, Outreach, etc. He absolutely loved serving alongside his wife Annie in the marriage ministry, teaching couples how to honor one another. Wherever there was a need, Terrence was always there to fill it. His famous line was, "That's What We Do!" Just recently, Terrence met with his pastors, sharing about the call on his life. He immediately became a part of TFC's Minister-in-Training program to receive the necessary tools to fulfill his purpose. Terrence's impact and love for his pastors and church family will forever be remembered and honored. Terrence leaves to cherish his memory Annie R. Buie, his wife of 28 years; his children: Terrence E. Buie II, Derrick R. Wilson, Te'Ara E. Buie, Ty E. Buie, Nicolas E. Buie, and Malaysia E. Buie; grandchildren: Akeem Wilson, Zy Wilson, and Derrick Wilson Jr.; siblings: Brenda Buie, Joyce( Wayne Carlos) Jenkins; mother-in-law, Thelma L. Wilson; brothers-in-law: David Wilson, Samuel Wilson, and Daniel (Patricia) Wilson; sister-in-law, Diane Windless; aunts: Emma Hamilton, Jackie (Joseph) Miller, and Beverly Gay; spiritual parents Pastors Ted & Dawn Winsley, and the entire Family Church Family; many nephews, nieces, cousins, law enforcement family, and special friends who were dear to his heart. Terrence was preceded in death by his siblings; Kevin Toler, and Carolyn Ann Buie. A special acknowledgement to his Aunt Viola Credle who passed two days prior on April 2, 2023.
