Lucille A. Mattox Reid, daughter of Eldon and Lucille Beatty Mattox, was born in Philadelphia, PA. Later moving with her parents to Glassboro, NJ, Lucille attended the Lawns and Aura Elementary Schools. She graduated from Delsea Regional High School in 1963 and continued her education at Glassboro State College and Gloucester County College.
In the late 60s, Lucille met the love of her life, Kenneth B. Reid (Kenny) who was stationed at the Army base in Erial, NJ. They married in September of 1972. Subsequent to their marriage, Lucille gave birth to their son Kenneth A. Reid (Ken).
Lucille worked in the recreation department at Vineland State School, transporting by bus and teaching Autistic and Special Needs children and young adults for 10 years. Later she worked in the private sector for several insurance companies (Allstate, Aetna, CNA and AIG). After passing the New Jersey civil service exam, Lucille left the private sector to work for The New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance, where she stayed for 30 years. During that time, she held a number of positions, but she was most proud of her work with the Mandated Health Insurance Commission, supporting the state legislature to draft bills to improve benefits for NJ citizens and those in the medical profession.
Lucille loved being a wife, a mother, and a sister to Carolyn. Plus, music, cooking, reading and decorating, and keeping her talents fresh by watching HGTV especially Mike Holmes (“make it right”) and Married to Real Estate. She also received enjoyment hearing her sister talk about hydroponic gardening. Furthermore, Lucille loved watching her son take care of her lawn and viewing You Tube lawn care videos of Pete Denny at GCI Turf with Ken. Finally, Lucille was incredibly fond of her church – The Perfecting Church.
Lucille always extended love and tenderness to whomever she met; she felt a great sense of joy when she could make someone happy. Lucille freely shared her wisdom, time, faith and experiences with those she loved, and with those she encountered along the way.
Lucille’s passing was preceded by her beloved husband Kenny in 2016. She is survived by her loving son Kenneth Reid, her sister Carolyn Mattox, sister-by-heart Anita Harris King, brother-by-heart Robert Only, sisters-in-law Sarah Evans, Sirllivera “Sibby” Harrison, Evelyn Reid (late Alphonso Reid Jr), Dorothy “Dot” Reid (late Wardell Reid), and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.
