Obituary of Frank M Carey, Jr.
Please share a memory of Frank to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Frank Mordie Carey Jr was born on November 4, 1949, in Camden, New Jersey to late parents Pearl L. Harrison-Carey and Frank M. Carey Sr. Frank was educated in Woodbury City Public Schools where he graduated from Woodbury Jr./Sr. High School in 1967. He was a member of Woodbury High School Marching Band and is remembered for playing the saxophone throughout his high school years. He went on to further his education graduating from Wilber Force University and was awarded the Rhodes Scholarship for post graduate studies at the University of Oxford in England. Frank studied abroad majoring in journalism where he attended the University of Oxford in England for 2 years. Upon his return back home, he worked for Mobil Oil Company for several years alongside his father. In 1989, he furthered his career with Septa Transportation in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as a trolley driver and later transitioned to driving Septa public transportation buses during the years of 1989-2014. He was known throughout the city of Philadelphia on his bus routes for his sympathetic and courteous mannerism toward his passengers.
Frank married the love of his life Lorraine, on March 23, at his family home in Woodbury, New Jersey. A few years later, they expanded their family with the birth of their daughter Faith L. Carey born September 20, 1985. Over the years Frank and Lorraine enjoyed traveling, whether it be amongst the two of them or together with family. When Frank was not working or traveling, in his leisure time he also enjoyed classical music, great food, wine/beer festivals and cigar tastings. His endless passion and love for learning made reading one of his most favorite hobbies.
Frank was known for his heart warming, gentle spirit and warm loving smile. He always enjoyed gatherings amongst family and friends where he would be guaranteed to share a story, laugh and tell a joke. Everyone loved to embrace Frank’s unique sense of humor. When you heard Frank say “Well, you know…” a story or joke was sure to follow. In his final days, Frank remained a loving family man. At the time of his departure April 15, 2023, Frank was surrounded by family and close friends. Left to cherish his memory are daughter Faith Carey, grandsons Nasere Johnson, Jaeleon Holman and Ziyen Harris as well as a host of family and friends.
