Eugene was the only son of James & Susie Jones. He has 4 sisters (Louise, Geraldine, Doris, Shirley). Having a close bond with his sisters, (who have now passed on) he naturally developed a habit for helping others and making people laugh. He Attended New York public schools where he would meet his future wife Janice at a school dance in 1950 at PS 179 and became united December of 1956 to be married and have 5 children. Steven, Debra, Geraldine,Ellen and Diane. Daughter in law (Anita) and sons in law (Walter-R.I.P.) (Andre and Monroe). Eugene enlisted and served 28 years in the army. He received the “Bronze star medal for excellency and bravery shown during ground operations Against hostile forces. He was stationed overseas in Korea, France, Okinawa, Vietnam twice, Germany and was also stationed in Fort Meade, Maryland and Fort Bliss Texas. He Then attended Sergeant-Major academy and graduated with honors as -“Sergeant Major Eugene Jones” and retired in Virginia. Then he worked for US Postal service, and retired in 2002. Eugene and his wife Janice Were married for 65 years and now have 19 grandchildren who refer to him as “Poppy”. Still known for his legendary nicknames such as: “The Old African” Or “Lil Rico”. He’s Always known as the life of the party. If anyone knows him, they definitely know the phrase “If you drive past and my shoes shine.. Just let me in” meaning you knew the vibe and the energy was bright and he wouldn’t fail you when it came to having a good time, whether you’re a stranger or the youngest of the family. He would also demand respect as a leader and the biggest in the room despite anyone else’s height compared to his. Along with his 19 grandkids he has 53 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. “His tribe” as he would call it. He loves his family dearly and with all the GREAT he’s done, one thing we’ll never forget…… along with him being a GREAT man…. “He was a Baaaaaad Man!” Long Live The Legend
