Thelma Marie Arthur Obituary
Thelma Marie Arthur would always say she was born on August 9, 1946 in Pocomoke, Maryland to Saul & Priscilla Drummond, but her birth certificate says August 13, 1946. She was welcomed home for a wedding with The Lord and reunited with her late husband, William H. Arthur, her parents and other relatives on Thursday, May 4, 2023. Thelma was just shy of 77 years of age. She is survived by children, George, Helen, Steve, Miranda, Allen and two children she also has been reunited with in Heaven, Sheila and Sabrina. She is also leaving behind 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Thelma’s family still remaining also includes her dearly loved siblings Elmetrius, Priscilla, Rosa Drummond and a host of nieces, nephews and many cousins.
In her early life, Thelma (aka “Beefy), moved from Maryland to Camden, NJ and eventually worked as a cop and security guard. Her children mentioned that when she told them about her work, she shared about going to the gun range. After a while, she quit being a city cop as violence increased and she was asked to become an undercover detective. Thelma also played softball on a team in Camden for two seasons and must have been pretty good, as even her grandchildren heard stories about her playing softball well many years later.
For the past two years, Thelma has had a few close calls with departing and each time The Lord Almighty has preserved her to be present with us for just a little longer. In this time, some noticed her growing closeness with The Lord Jesus. She would frequently say she talked to Him every day, several times a day and always for the children. Many who have known her for a very long time evidently witnessed how much The Lord transformed and prepared her heart to meet Him. As a funny aside, if she ever came out of character it would be said, “uh oh, it’s the old Thelma coming out, haha.” Thelma was very adamant about peace and reconciliation, even communicating the importance of these things often with those around her.
The family thanks everyone who share prayers, condolences and memories. Any cards, gifts or food anyone would like to share can be sent to 209 Heaney Avenue in Lawnside, NJ. We will continue to honor her memory and look forward to reunification with Thelma soon… love you Thelma!
