Obituary of JoAnn Stockman

JoAnn was born in Savannah, Georgia to the late Thurman Brooks, Sr. and the late Willie Maude Beckett. She was the sister of Thelma Pierce and Thurman Brooks, Jr., who proceeded her in death. She was also the grand daughter of the late Josephine Curtis and the step-daughter of the late Verdell Beckett. JoAnn was the sister-in-law of the late Nathaniel Pierce. And, was married to the late Theodore Stockman.
After JoAnn's parents moved her and the family to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she completed her education and later went on to earn an Associate Degree from The Community College of Philadelphia.
She joined Holsey Temple C.M.E. Church and was very active in the choir. After moving to New Jersey, she found a new home Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where she also became a member of the choir.
JoAnn's job career took her on many journeys and she always had a story to tell about each one. She enjoyed helping people which was very important to her. Her many journeys went from a cashier at two major Supermarkets, a bank teller at two major banks, a nurse's aide at a Philadelphia hospital, a nurse's aide at a Philadelphia nursing home and her most enjoyable job was her Certification she earned to become a phlebotomist.
In spite of her health difficulties, JoAnn was very independent and wanted to do things for herself, especially cook her own tasteful food. She departed this life on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 9:15 A.M. at The Samaritan Hospice Care Center located in Voorhees, NJ., to enter into God's House.
She leaves to cherish fond memories, four sons and one daughter: Rodney Stockman of Savannah, Georgia, Taterea Stockman of Voorhees, NJ, Christopher Stockman of Philadelphia, Mark Stockman of South Carolina, and Shawn Stockman of California. Two daughter-in- laws: Sharhonda Stockman & Frances Stockman. 7 grandchildren: Christopher, Sara, Brandun, Micah, Ty and Brooklyn, & Zachariah Stockman. One great-grand: Jazmyne. Two brothers and one sister: Roderick Brooks of Philadelphia, Virgil {Stevie} Beckett of Jacksonville, Florida and Veronica Brooks of Somerset, NJ. Your spiritual daughter Rene Price and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.
