Born into this world so beautiful, You were called Dolly as you laid in your mother’s arms.
Sarah Linda Clay was born on February 28, 1936, in Beaufort, South Carolina. She graduated from Robert Smalls High School in 1954 and moved to Norwalk, Connecticut where she met her husband Charles Sylvester Clay. They married in Trenton, New Jersey where they put down their family roots, raising two beautiful children: Brenda Geizel and Undra Elissa who were the absolute apples of Sarah’s eye.
Sarah was a Super Soulful Woman who worked numerous jobs including 10 years at Prince Manufacturing; Magic Marker, General Motors and Bristol Meyers Squibb. She was the embodiment of fierce and no-nonsense strength coupled with divine femininity. Through her life, Sarah’s common thread was unrelenting Love for her family and friends. If you were in Sarah’s heart, you were fully covered by her grace and whatever she had to offer, to help you to wholeness. She always extended her hands.
Known by so many beautiful titles and names: Doll Baby, Mommy, Grandma, Dolly, Aunt Dolly, Linda, Sarah, Mrs. Clay - endeared in them all…was the southern hospitality she displayed and the beautiful home she kept with the drapes and the furnishings, “just so”. To her Beaufort South Carolina, soul food cooking skills that were passed down from her precious parents: the sweet potato pies, banana pudding, shrimp and okra, shrimp salad, fried fish. And how ‘bout them pancakes and bacon…Sarah’s cooking skills are and will always be legendary. And just as legendary is Sarah’s heart. You, Sarah, are our counselor. You, Sarah, are our peacemaker. You, Sarah, are our teacher. You, Sarah, are our soft place to fall. You, Sarah, are our rock. Beautiful Mother. Virtuous Wife. Now Angel on High. You are loved beyond measure!!!
Sarah leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband Charles Sylvester Clay, 2 daughters: Brenda Geizel McLeon (Kenneth), Undra Elissa Biggs (Alvin, Sr.), Four Grandchildren: Keneisha Roberts (Alejandro “Ray”), Kenneth L. McLeon, Miya S. Jones-Biggs and Alvin R. Biggs, Jr; Six Great-Grandchildren: Alexia, Alejandro, Alijah, Alec, Alel and Axel Roberts; special nephew who checked in regularly Gerald Williams; Four special nieces who checked in regularly: Dianne Taylor, Jaqueline Clay, Laura El and Sandra Tyler; as well as a host of dearly-loved nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Sarah is proceeded by her parents: Oliver Colonel and Daisy Lawton Williams; her siblings: Herbert Williams, Sr., Mildred Wilson, Leola Simmons, “Deek” King David Williams, Albertha Pollard, “Nate” Nathan Williams, “Retta” Lauretta O’Neil and “Levy” Leon Williams; and Granddaughter: Lateisha Brenai McLeon
